The alarms in Resolute howled like mighty beasts. Red lights pulsed across the metal walls, and the air vibrated with the explosions, permeated with dust and the sound of turbolaser fire. Matteo Shepard stood at the console, the cold light of the panels reflecting off his helmet, with Garrus, Tali, and Joker beside him, focused on coordinating the fight.
"Hit again!" Joker shouted. "The dreadnought on the left destroyed the civilian transport's shields!"
"Secure the evacuation," Matteo ordered. "Every ship that can move is to get the civilians out. We'll take care of the rest."
Tali gripped the handle of her blaster, staring at the screen as if trying to predict the enemy's every move. Garrus moved closer to Matteo.
"We can't stay on the defensive forever. Their numbers will overwhelm us."
"I know," Shepard replied. "But every move forward costs lives. We have to weigh the risks."
Noble appeared on the bridge. Her figure was motionless, but an aura of decisiveness filled the room.
"Commander, I have information from the boarding party. We are sending a group to the Executor-class destroyer maneuvering on the flanks. If they manage to take the bridge, we will gain a strategic advantage."
"How many people?" Matteo asked.
"120," Noble replied. "But they have no backup, they have to rely on themselves."
Matteo nodded.
"Good. Lead them. And we... we'll hold our position."
Garrus looked at him uncertainly.
"That's suicide."
"Sometimes you have to take risks to gain something," Shepard replied calmly. "Remember that."
Chaos reigned supreme aboard the frigates and cruisers. Laser beams cutting through the darkness, explosions tearing through metal, the screams of soldiers, and the roar of warships created a symphony of war.
On one of the escort frigates, Maul and Sera Madreth led the assault team. The red blades of the Sith cut through their enemies, and the Alliance soldiers followed close behind, full of determination.
"Thirty enemies ahead!" Madreth shouted, blocking a missile with her Force shield.
"Follow me!" Maul roared, knocking out a group of TIE Troopers in the hull corridors.
Arla Jareni and Damian Reese remotely monitored the situation aboard the Dawnfire. Arla raised the Force, assisting the defenders, while Damian tried to coordinate the movements of the civilian fleet, which was still flying away to safe sectors.
"He's here," Arla whispered, suddenly frozen. "I feel the Force... Palpatine is closer than we think."
"What now?" asked the Padawan.
"Now we survive the first strike and learn our lesson," the Master replied.
On the Resolute, Matteo Shepard had prepared his plan.
"Garrus, you lead the flank. Tali, secure the rear. Joker, handle communications and coordinate the fighters. I..." Shepard looked at EDI. "I'll be on the front line if they try to take the bridge."
At that moment, the radar signaled a sudden attack. An enemy destroyer broke through the escort formation. Laser beams hit the line cruisers, causing them to explode. Matteo turned, ready to intervene.
"Time for our part," he muttered under his breath. He drew his lightsaber and headed for the breach, where enemies were beginning to storm the bridge.
Garrus and Tali opened fire, eliminating the first waves of enemies, while Joker, shouting over the radio, guided the fighters to intercept the enemy bombers.
On the Resolute bridge, Matteo encountered the first wave of Imperial agents. Their armor glowed red with alarms, their energy swords ready to strike. Shepard drew in a breath, focusing all his power into every movement.
"For the Alliance," he whispered, attacking his enemies with a single, precise cut.
The soldiers fell like trees in a storm, Matteo's movements fluid and deadly. Garrus supported him on the left flank, taking out another group of attackers. Tali used her engineering skills to destabilize the enemy's systems, disabling their turbolasers and missile launchers.
"We've got our first breakthrough!" Garrus shouted as several enemies fell to the floor.
"But this is just the beginning," Shepard replied, glancing at the radar. "The rest are coming."
In the distance, through the chaos of battle, Arla felt another wave of dark energy.
"He's here..." she whispered again.
A chill ran through the heroes' hearts. Palpatine didn't need to enter the bridge for his presence to be felt. He was a shadow over everything — every ship, every shot, every explosion.
"Prepare for the second wave," Shepard ordered, raising his lightsaber. "We can't back down."
And so, at the epicenter of chaos, the battle was just beginning. Star destroyers, fighters, Jedi, Sith, and Alliance heroes fought for survival—for every meter of space, every breath, every hope that could be preserved in this hell.
