After a brutal clash with the Emperor's forces, Matteo Shepard and his surviving crew hid in distant sectors. The Alliance fleet was in ruins, and the morale of the survivors was still teetering on the brink of collapse.
"Palpatine won the battle, but he didn't destroy us all," Shepard said, looking at the surviving soldiers. "We still have people, we have experience. That's enough to start fighting in the shadows."
Tali took control of a small transport fleet, planning the safe hiding of ships and movements between sectors. Garrus analyzed the tactical situation, looking for the Empire's weak points.
Shepard sent messages to several independent systems and planets that had not fallen under Imperial control. The responses were mixed, but some races and colonies expressed their willingness to cooperate.
"It won't be a large army," Jane noted. "But it will be enough to start sabotage operations."
"That's the point," Shepard replied. "Every mission, every resource gained is a step toward rebuilding the Alliance."
Arla Jareni and Damian Reese conducted intensive training for the survivors. Every member of the team had to be ready to act quickly and effectively, because the Empire would be patrolling the sectors with even greater determination.
"This is no time for hesitation," Arla said. "Every mistake could cost lives."
Ellie and Jubilee watched everything with admiration, learning leadership and tactics from their older companions.
The first missions were carried out in secret — sabotaging warehouses, attacking small Imperial units, rescuing prisoners. Each successful operation boosted morale and gave hope to the survivors.
"I see that we can still make a difference," Garrus said , looking at the results of the first actions.
"This is just the beginning," replied Shepard. "Palpatine thinks he's won, but we're just getting started."
Although the Emperor was powerful, Shepard and his team were slowly regaining the initiative. Every mission in the shadows, every sector saved, was proof that hope was not yet dead.
"This is just the beginning," said Shepard, looking into space. "And the galaxy has not yet surrendered."
