White flecks of flour flew out of the large bowl as Layla mixed the ingredients inside. Glancing at the recipe's instructions every now and then to insure she was doing it right, she followed it as best she could and hoped for the best.
After pouring the batter into a cake pan and sliding it onto the oven, Layla set a timer and let out a sigh. "And now we wait." She said to herself as she went to clean the flour off her hands and clothes.
As she was waiting, her phone began to ring. She checked the caller ID to find that it was Echo.
"Hey, Layla. How's it going with Miss Nowhere's cake?" Echo asked when Layla answered the call.
"I think it's going good. I'm gonna take it out of the oven in a few minutes, then we'll see how it is."
"Good." Echo said, "Oh, and if Cisco calls, don't tell him you're the one making the cake."
"You keeping it a secret so he doesn't eat it?" Layla asked, smirking to herself.
"We don't want a repeat of last year." Echo said. Even over the phone, her disappointment was evident enough in her voice. "I bought that cake box you asked for, I'll bring it by your place on my way to the surprise party."
"Alright, thanks." Layla said before hanging up and checking on the cake. She was pleased to find that it looked baked to perfection. Though it was her first time taking on a project as important this, maybe she wasn't that bad at baking after all.
Just as Layla was putting down the cake to cool, there was a knock at her front door. Already knowing who it was, she smiled. "It's unlocked!" She yelled as she carefully removed the cake from the pan and set it down on the counter.
Across the house she could hear the sound of the front door opening and closing followed by footsteps. She looked up just as her boyfriend entered the kitchen.
"Hey Gray." Tony said as he placed a quick kiss on her cheek.
"Hey Toretto. You came just in time to help me decorate the cake." She told him.
"Need help taste testing it too?" He asked.
She rolled her eyes. "No."
"No harm in just asking." He shrugged. "So, what can I help with?"
"Frosting the cake." She said as she opened a container of bright red frosting and pulled out two butter knives.
"What flavor is that?" Tony asked as he picked up one of the knives and scooped out a dab of frosting.
Layla shrugged. "Red?"
Tony chuckled a little as they both began frosting the cake. For several minutes they were both quiet and focused as they gave detailed attention to making the cake look perfect.
"I think it's strawberry." Tony said, breaking the silence.
"I'm pretty sure it's just vanilla dyed red." Layla said.
"One way to find out." Tony dabbed a bit of frosting onto Layla's lips before kissing her and sucking it off.
"Mmm you're right." He said as he pulled away, licking his lips. "Wanna try?" He held out his butter knife, the tip covered in frosting.
She raised an eyebrow before taking it, using it to spread a little frosting on his jaw. Layla's scent swept under Tony's nose, filling him with a burning warmth as she stepped closer and began licking the frosting off of his skin.
After licking up all the frosting, Layla trailed her lips up to his and kissed him. Tony stepped back a bit, bumping into the counter, as she pushed even closer.
"There wasn't any frosting on my lips." Tony said after she pulled back. Layla rolled her eyes and went back to frosting the cake. He watched her work, his heart still fluttering from when she was close to him.
Layla was almost done frosting when Tony wrapped his arms around her from behind, resting his head on her shoulder. The sudden embrace caught her by surprise.
"You're messy." Tony said, his hot breath tickling her ear. Layla felt a wave of exciting heat course through her. "You're getting frosting everywhere."
His lips brushed against her jaw and trailed down to her neck. "What're you doing, Toretto?" She tried to ignore him and continue working but couldn't help letting out a gasp as his hot mouth sucked at her skin. "This isn't helping me."
"I can't help myself." His voice was a husky whisper that was slightly muffled as he wouldn't remove his lips from her skin. "Who cares about frosting, you taste good."
"Well, if you're not gonna help me with the frosting, you can go and wait for me to finish." She told him. He stopped, waiting for her to finish frosting the cake then dipped his finger into the container and spread the red paste on her cheek.
"What're you-" She trailed off as he began licking the frosting off.
"I'm helping you with the frosting." He said as he slid her jacket off. It fell to the floor and was soon followed by her shirt as he began sweeping frosting across her shoulder and upper arm. Not even a second after he put the frosting on her, he began sucking it off.
Layla smirked, giving in to his little game. After he finished licking up the frosting, she grabbed the container and pushed him away. Removing his shirt, she cornered him against a counter a safe distance away from where the cake was sat.
Tony's eyes lit up with a playful fire at the seductive smirk in her eyes as she began spreading some of the red frosting on his chest. She then began to suck it off, leaving little love bites and red marks as she went. As she did so, he wrapped his arms around her waist, running his hands up and down her body as he pulled her closer.
Grabbing the frosting from her, he put some on her lips before kissing her hard. As their kiss grew in heat and intensity, one of his hands trailed up her back and unclipped her bra. She felt a little chill of cool air run over her exposed skin. It was quickly replaced by the warmth of his hand as his fingers spread more frosting over her.
Separating from the kiss, Tony moved his lips down to her chest, cleaning up the red frosting with his tongue. Soft moans left her mouth at the fever of heat that coursed through her.
They continued taking turns spreading the frosting across each other and cleaning it off with kisses as more layers of clothing fell to the floor. With every heated exchange the passion between them grew.
Picking Layla up, Tony placed her down on top of the counter, her wrapping her arms and legs around him as they spread the last bit of frosting on each other. By now they were both a sticky red mess. But as the entangled couple pulled each other closer, neither of them minded how much of a hassle cleaning up later would be.
In the heat of their passionate moment, the rest of the world was a blur. They forgot about what they were supposed to be doing, what was going on later that day, and one other key detail.
"Umm." The sudden sound caught the two by surprise, startling them. They quickly pulled away from their kiss and turned to see Echo standing in the doorway. "I knocked but you didn't answer... I'm just gonna leave the box by the door." She said, "You two better shower fast, the party starts in twenty." And with that she left.
Embarrassment overwhelmed the couple as they got off each and began picking up their clothes. Both of their faces were as bright red as the frosting on their faces and their hands. Layla was the most flustered, but Tony was more lost in thought as this little frosting mess gave him different ideas on how he could bring even more sweetness- or spiciness- to their lives. And bedroom.
(A/N: well that got sticky. Family chapter coming next!)
