Dorothy's POV
I was lying on my bed looking at the latest surfing magazine, trying to forget the pain that Dad's disappearance had caused me and my whole family.
I heard a creaking noise and I was greeted by the familiar face of my twin sister, Sophie, coming through my door.
We were identical, we had the same figure, she was only an inch taller than I. We had the same black hair and nose. The only features that set us apart were my small, amber brown eyes while Sophie had small, dark, brown eyes. Sophie had extremely short, messy black hair and I had long, wavy black hair.
But the biggest contrast between me and my sister was our personalities and sense of fashion. I am overly extroverted but Sophie is more of an introverted ambivert. She absolutely hates sports but I absolutely adore sports, especially surfing. She focuses more on her skills and we both do extremely well at school.
"Dori, Dori, Dori. Mom just told me that her new boyfriend, Alex, is coming for dinner." The words fell out of Sophie's mouth rapidly.
"Slow down, I know," I pause, "she already told me".
"What are we going to do?" She queried me.
"Meet him, what else can we do? "I retorted.
"I can't believe she's moved on so quickly, " she sighed as she slumped onto my bed.
"It's been 5 years, Soph... 5 years, and if moving on will help her heal, let it be", I tried to calm down Sophie before she spiraled into another one of her long lectures about all the possible places our dad could be hiding in the States.
"I know but I didn't expect her to start dating this soon," Sophie retorted.
"You know what, let's stop talking about all this and focus on starting school in three days," I replied, trying to keep the conversation going.
"Thanks for trying to keep my mind off you know what. I just wanted to inform you about the whole Alex thing and thanks for those 'reassuring' words," Sophie said in the most sarcastic voice ever.
"Oh, come on, don't be like that," I quickly replied to try to get rid of her pain and annoyance.
"Bye, Dorothy," and with that, she slammed the door shut and vacated my room.
It's funny how we are so alike yet so different at the same time especially personality-wise. It makes it hard for me to just try to have lengthy conversations with her and try to understand how she's feeling.
The rest of the day was a whirlwind of events with me going for a new wetsuit fitting and surf practice.
I lay down on my bed, trying to relax and shake off the stress of another hectic day, however, I couldn't shake off the fact that Sophie and I were becoming more distant with every passing year, so I have decided to try to bridge the gap between us from now on.
Sophie's POV
I woke up to the noise of honking sports cars on the street right next to our mansion. I grabbed my phone and realized that I had slept through all of my alarms.
I scrambled out of bed, took a quick shower, and changed into a pink shirt covered in red strawberries and baggy, light-washed jeans with a pair of white sneakers.
I had to take Dorothy to her final wetsuit fitting before her interstate competition since her car had broken down and was at the workshop.
I sprinted through the long hallways and quickly went downstairs. When I arrived in the kitchen I was quickly greeted with the familiar fragrant aroma of my mom's cooking.
