Chapter 19

Dela brought Caroline back home after everything she had been through and helped her take out the stakes and other implements as painlessly as she could.

"You know I kinda wish Katherine didn't kill him so I could have gotten my hands on him" Dela mumbled as she handed Care another blood bag so she could heal quicker.

Caroline grimaced as she pulled out another small wooden spike from her neck "Why was Katherine there, and why did she listen to you?" Caroline desperately wanted to change the subject.

"Katherine is under Elijah's compulsion to do anything I ask. He didn't want to leave me without vampire muscle and he wanted to keep Katherine contained until Nik gets here, two birds one stone kinda thing" Dela explained but before Care could say anything her phone started ringing.

"Hi" Care said gently, her throat still sore.

Dela couldn't hear what was said but she could hear Matt's voice on the other end. Care apologizing also tipped her off but before her sister could make some horrible excuse she grabbed the phone.

"Hey Matt it's Elinor don't blame Care, I kidnapped her for a girl's night and didn't give her any choice. She kept saying she had plans but I just went through a bad breakup and needed a good cry with my sister, I hope you understand" Dela said, covering up for Caroline.

Caroline gave her a thankful look making Elinor mouth back 'no problem' as she listened to Matt talk.

"Oh yeah that's fine, I get it. Tell Care we can do a raincheck" Matt said, while he didn't sound happy he also wasn't the type of guy to blame Care for this as Dela was taking the fall.

Once she hung up the phone Care gave her a half smile "Thanks, I suck at lying to him. It always ends up biting me in the ass" she said with a huff as she threw down her phone lightly onto the desk.

Dela shrugged "Then tell him, he wouldn't be the first nor last human around here to find out about vampires" she said pointedly.

"No! I can't tell him! Damon would kill him!" Care said, genuinely afraid of that happening.

Dela let out a huff "No he wouldn't, he'll threaten to but he matters to Elena so Damon won't want to upset her. But Care if there's another reason, maybe a certain werewolf, that's holding you back then maybe it's best just to cut ties. If you keep dating Matt he's gonna find out eventually and get sucked into all this" she told her sister, knowing Care needed to hear it from someone who's not trying to scare her into compliance.

Caroline scowled "This has nothing to do with Tyler! And even if there might have been something it's over now. He did nothing as I was tortured and had a gun to my head" she said angrily, not forgetting Tyler's face as she was in the cage.

"Good, I don't hate the guy but he's a hotheaded asshole a little too comfortable throwing his weight around. You deserve better than the way he would treat you" Dela said with a scowl, thinking of the wolf boy.

Just as they were talking about him Tyler Lockwood showed up on their doorstep. Dela stood back while Caroline ripped him a new asshole, silently cheering on her little sister the whole time.

After Care had gone to take a shower Stefan texted her with a plan.

Dela thought it was a good idea, Care needed her friends right now so when Bonnie and Elena showed up Dela left her sister in their hands and went to her own room to pack up a few things.

As she did she pulled out her phone and called Elijah, she talked to him for an hour as she packed some things she wanted to keep.

The phone call put her in a much better mood since Elijah said he was getting close to finding Nik, he should be able to get in contact with him within the next few days.
