Chapter 22

While Nik and Elijah were gone Dela worked on getting Finn and Kol accustomed to modern times. She started them off slowly with clothes and the TV, and then she would attempt to explain how a cell phone works.

They had both seen her answer several texts on her phone and had asked what the little black brick with lights was.

She had tried explaining but had eventually realized she would need to give them the basics before getting into the internet and instant messaging.

Thankfully they at least knew what a phone was as they had one of thier own back in 1906 and by the time she died as Abigale it was becoming increasingly common to have a telephone in your home.

Caroline was the only one to really reach out, Stefan and Damon had been strangely silent. She really hoped they weren't doing anything stupid but knowing them, they were. Those two just won't stay out of trouble.

The strangest calls by far were from Liz, in all her lives her parents rarely kept in contact after she reached adulthood, whether she remembered or not.

She supposes things are different this time around, parents cared much less for thier children in the past, mostly due to mortality rates as well as being utterly haggard most of the time.

Each generation is a bit more sober than the last.

The only time Dela had ever kept in contact with her family was as Abigail and even then her parents had disowned her for choosing vampires. Though she had kept in contact with her brothers from that life.

Given Liz was a vampire hunter she probably won't take her relationship with the Mikaelsons very well either.

"What has you frowning so, my love?" Finn asked as he wrapped his arms around her from behind, his head resting on her shoulder as she stared at her phone.

Dela smiled and leaned back against him "Just thinking of my mother in this life. Things are different in this day and age, parents are more involved and understanding. Given the fact my sister is a Vampire I don't have to cut them off this time. At least I hope so. I know Care will stay in my life but my mom might not wish to see me after she finds out" She pursed her lips in thought.

Finn furrowed his brow, it was clear he wished to help her "Must she know what we are to keep her in your life?"

"If I try and hide it she'll find out. She's already figured it out once and been compelled it's just a matter of time until she figures it out again. She's part of the vampire hunter town council, which for the most part is useless without Damon" Dela rolled her eyes as she thought about the Council.

Finn lifted his head from her shoulder "Damon?"

Dela huffed "Damon Salvatore, my brother. I told you about him" she said, reminding him of the times she spoke of her brothers as Abigale. Finn nodded, remembering who she was speaking of.

"If your brothers are here and vampires why are you so concerned?"

Dela let out a tired sigh as she hung her head "Because once again they are in love with a doppelganger. They hate Elijah and Nik for reasons I can't begin to understand as they are nonsensical at best. I just know there going to do something to screw this all up" Her words came out as a rush, showing Finn how much this whole thing was stressing her out.

Finn grumbled before kissing the side of her neck "We will think of something but in the meantime why don't I distract you?" he asked lowly as she let out a shaky breath.

"This is just rude darling, you didn't even ask if I wanted to join!" Kol complained from the end of the bed making Dela roll her eyes and turn to look at Kol.
