Admittedly I loved the last day of school because I always came home with straight A's, if you did not bother to notice the D I always got in math. This year however it was not a D anymore. This year it was a C+. My report card had never been this good before.
From the corners of my eyes I noticed Christian and the others somewhere in the distance. Usually Christian and I would have compared our report cards. He always had straight A's as well besides in math and physical education. That was why he always ranked second in our grade.
Based on the joyful laughter they expressed, I could tell that not much had changed. Anthony failed English and history. Eric was average as always. Kadir's only A was physical education. The rest were just C's. And Christian was second.
Nothing really changed besides the fact that I was missing. I was not standing next to Anthony, scolding him for failing two classes and neither did I compare my report card with Christian. I was not asking Kadir how he managed to get a C in math and I did not pressure Eric to study with Christian, all alone, just the two of them. I mean, now that Christian was dating her, I had no reason to. Eric had not just lost the fight. He lost the entire war.
At least Tristan had changed. He put his arm around me and proudly told me that he almost failed chemistry and biology. As for math, he failed that class. Just a year ago he used to be one of the top students in chemistry and biology but now he decided to give up on that persona.
"Honestly, that's so unfair! How can you be handsome and a genius at the same time?!"
"It's called good genes and hard work Tristan."
"Still, it's unfair. Hard work doesn't always pay off you know. Sometimes you fail anyways. Those are the moments you question why you worked this hard to begin with.", he sighed.
"Not like I have any experience with this depressing stuff. I rather like working smart than hard.", he added with a big smile on his face.

I had not actually been searching for her but then again I knew that I was going to find her behind the basketball court. Alone. Lonely. Pitiful. School had ended minutes ago. Everyone went home but she did not. Christian was most likely waiting for her somewhere. He had no idea what was going on.
She did not have a place that she could call home. She was just like a ghost.
"I heard a rumour that you passed. Congrats, you won't have to repeat the year."
Her dead eyes were glaring at me. She did not expect me to come here but I did anyways. The truth is that I wanted to see her one last time. Our deal was over. There was no reason for us to stay together. Realising that made me feel uncomfortable. I did not want to part ways just yet but I knew that the time had come. I was selfish for wishing that everything could stay the same.
"I barely even passed. My parents will whip my ass once I'm home."
"These are just letters scribbled on a piece of paper."
"Says the one that doesn't even know any other letter than the letter A."
That was not true but starting a discussion was not getting me anywhere. Instead I focused on the way she stood next to the old tree and stared into the distance. What did she see that I could not see? What did she feel that I could not feel? Did she hear my heart beating loudly?
"What do you even want from me? Our deal is over. You passed the first round and I passed the year. Anyways, I want my pills back. I payed good money for them."
"Getting your drugs back was never part of the deal. Besides, I want to propose a new deal."
"A new deal? Why should I agree to a new deal?"
"Because you have no other choice. You're lucky I didn't call an ambulance the other day. Otherwise the police would have found out about your little secret, Sera."
"Sera?"
Did she not like it?
"I thought it was a more appropriate name for you because calling you Sarah just feels wrong. I understand now that you're not just Sarah. You're also Siren."
"I love it."
She smiled. She was genuinely smiling. It was not another mask she put one. For a split second I saw a glimmer of hope inside of her marble-like brown eyes. Perhaps it was just the reflection of the sun or perhaps it was a leaf that danced in the wind. I did not care. The cool breeze was neither pleasant nor bothersome . The chirping of the birds was neither beautiful nor disgusting. The scent of Sera's perfume, combined with the smell of the many flowers around us, was already more familiar than I ever wanted it to be.
"So, what's this new deal about?", she asked all of sudden but could not keep herself from smiling.
"You let me stay by your side and I'll make you fall in love with me."
My answer came as a shock to her. Sera did not know what to say. Out of all the things I could have said, she never imagined me to say those words. Honestly until recently I would not have I believed it either but here we were.
"You're insane.", she snapped.
"Why? I get it you're slowly falling for Christian-"
"I'm not!"
"Really? Why are you against the idea of falling for me then?", I raised an eyebrow.
"You're playing with fire Tyson."
"You're the one who pulled me into this mess. If it wouldn't have been for you, I would live a normal life right now but instead I'm out here making sure that you stay alive. I lost my friends and my girlfriend because of you. You're the only I have left Sera."
I took a step forward until eventually we were only few inches away from each other. I looked into her eyes demandingly, waiting for an answer. My hand reached for her cheeks. Her face looked so small between my fingers. I could not help but feel excited every time her warm breath brushed my palm.
"I can give you what Christian can't give you. You'll understand that he's just a child. When that day comes, I'll be waiting for you."
"Why though? I thought you hated me."
Sera raised her head and looked up. In the meantime my fingertips wandered to her precious neck. The colours of our skins were almost matching. If only her skin were a little darker, it would have been identical to my own.
"I do hate you. That's why I want you. You're the love of my life and I won't let anyone get between us."
Sera did not believe a word I said but she never denied my offer. It did not matter whether she would fall for me in a second or in a year. I just wanted her to myself so that I could destroy her the way she destroyed me.
Only I can protect her.
Only I can make her happy.
She and I belong together.
Forever.
I'll make you mine and only mine, no matter what.
