"Thank you Tyson. Perfect as always." I never had as much fun in class as in the moment I leaned back a little in my chair and held up my perfect homework to the freak, who had not even done her own. Of course I made sure that nobody would notice what I was doing, which turned out to be a little complicated considering I sat in the first row and well, the freak sat in the last row.
The moment she saw that joyful smirk on my face, she looked around carefully before she suddenly flipped me off with both her hands. Absolutely worth it. That image was going to be burned into her mind.
After class, when almost all the students had left the classroom, I slyly walked up to the freak and held her tightly by the ponytail to grab her attention. I asked her if she was failing on purpose to blow off our deal but she quietly insisted that this was not the case. I would have continued my little game, if the freak had not warned me of Luna, who ran towards me. Instantly I let go of her hair and put on my more innocent smile. Luna asked what was going on but I simply announced that the freak had a question about class.
"Alors, I don't really see the problem here. Shouldn't you feel honoured that Luna is interested in you? She's cute." Anthony commented, as we got ourselves something to drink from the vending machine on the second floor. Anthony did not even consider paying for a second. He simply held out his hand and waited for me to pay.
"How would you feel, if someone were to hit on you, while you're in a relationship?" I asked him with a serious tone, as I reluctantly handed him the money.
"Depends. If Bella asked me out, I'd definitely say oui!"
"You're unbelievable."
"And you should start drinking something else besides orange juice all the time." He handed me the can of orange juice and got himself some coffee. We searched around for some place quiet and noticed two benches right across the corridor that had been free.
As we sat down to enjoy our drinks, Alexy suddenly appeared from behind the corner together with Mikhail and Louis. Great, of all the people in the world, why did it have to be Louis?
She probably did not notice us until I called out to her. Suddenly she had this anxious look on her face, as she looked around until she spotted me. Her expression changed. It became soft and lovely.
"I didn't expect to see you here." She gently kissed me on the cheek, before she sat down right next to me. Louis crossed his arms in front of his chest and disapprovingly stared at us. I had absolutely no idea what his problem was. Maybe he just had a bad day.
It was not until Anthony asked him about when he was finally coming to the gym again that he stopped staring. He seemed a little nervous and did not actually know how to answer Anthony's question. Apparently he had avoided the gym for a while now, since that incident with the freak.
Louis seemed more than glad, when Alexy changed the conversation. She started talking about Seeker and of course about Siren. Lately she had not been drinking as much in her streams but she seemed to be a little tired. Well obviously, she spent every day after school at my place for two hours. Either she was shouting at me or I was shouting at her. Even I was tired however I could not tell them that.
As much as I hated to admit it, I felt as if the freak and I were not going anywhere. She still sucked at school and I still sucked at Seeker. The only thing she taught me was that I needed to remember the stats of literally everything. How much damage does the first attack deal? How much ATP do you get from which monster? How many hit points do you gain from which shield? She did not want to hear a general answer. She wanted to hear the exact numbers. As if I could remember all the stuff she wrote down for me.
"By the way baby, Louis and Mikhail said they would join our team for the second round. Elijah is considering joining as well. We'll surely win the junior tournament!"
One second. I had not listened to her for one second and suddenly my world collapsed. I turned to face Anthony but once I did, I noticed that his face had been drained of all its colours. He was devastated and I was frozen in place.
"Tyson, what is she talking about? You, Christian, Kadir, Eric and I are a team. We've been training since the day the tournament has been announced. You wouldn't betray us, non?" Anthony was smiling but his brown eyes told a different story. I knew that look. It was just like back then, when I first met him. These were the eyes of a child that had been betrayed by the people it had been looking up to. I could not and did not want to look at those eyes.
"Damn it, say something! Nous sommes tes amis! You can't turn your back on us just because of some bitch!"
Why was it that only his voice echoed through the hallway? Suddenly all eyes were on us and I did not know what to do. Anthony was furious. His face was red from all the anger he's had bottled up.
"Excuse me?!"
"Ferme ta gueul Alexy, I'm talking to Tyson!"
Never in my life had I expected Anthony to say those exact words and with that exact expression on his face. If this had been a horror movie, his eyes would have been bleeding. He was furious but at the same time delusional. He was hoping that this had been an awful joke. He was hoping that he had been wrong. However, it was the truth. I had betrayed him and the others. It's insane how badly I wanted to punch myself in that situation.
"Don't you dare talk to Alexy like this!" I started shouting. Now I had done it. One look at my keen brown eyes was enough for him to realise that I was serious. Anthony simply shook his head in disbelief.
"Alors, c'est comme ça. Putain. I don't care. If you think she's more important than tes amis, then do whatever you want but without me."
Before I could say anything, Anthony walked away. Of course Louis and Mikhail ran after him but I stayed. Alexy asked me if I should not follow after him but I told her that he probably needed some time by himself. The truth however was that I was scared. My entire body was trembling. My knees were getting weak. I felt nauseous and the world was spinning. If it had not been for Alexy, who was holding me, I would have fallen to the ground. Somehow the air I was breathing had been cold and dry. I hated it. It was killing me. For once I understood how Christian must have felt all those years.
