This is...
Bothersome.
I originally wanted to slip away whilst everyone was getting interviews about their recent locations.
What I did not predict, however, was that there would be groupings.
And I was grouped with...
Civilians.
Of course I understand the attempt to keep me unnoticeable, but not even putting me with a single member of my employees?
They didn't even put me in the same group as Wriothesley.
Tsk.
How bothersome indeed.
But nevertheless, I will have to suck it up and deal with it as such.
There had been about 120 or so people when the lockdown happened, and everyone had been banded together with another 5, some random, some of whom they were previously with.
There were 10 groups of 12, and I found myself in group number 3.
Wriothesley was in group number 4.
Sigh.
Couldn't I have stood a bit further away at the time? Maybe then I could have joined him.
Well, nothing I could do about it now, I had to get this interrogation over with and make sure to be seen as suspicious to be able to have a private word with Furina.
Shouldn't be too difficult.
"So. Were any of you lot with each other before the lockdown?" One of the security guards asked as he walked into the room that my group had been seated in,
I gave my group a quick scan, most of them looked quite nervous to be perfectly honest.
Which is understandable, I suppose, many people crack under pressure that is so severe as this.
Many people act like such even though they're most likely not guilty.
It makes my life a whole lot harder when being CEO of a law firm.
I was just about to say something when one of the young ladies I was with opened her mouth.
"We were mostly all checking out the art in the main lobby, most of us are art students and were admiring it, it's a famous piece after all." She explained.
She looked around 19 years old and although her words seemed confident, she was ever so slightly bouncing her leg up and down in nervousness.
Also, she was right. The piece that I had bought was indeed famous, however, not too expensive, ranging from about 13 million? I believe? I may have to double check that later...
Her friends all seemed to nod at her statement in agreement, before one of them turned to me.
"We don't know where this guy was though, we haven't met him once." She stated, and they began muttering amongst themselves.
"Oh yeah that's right..."
"Who is that guy...?"
"I've never met him..."
"He wasn't with us!"
"Ahem" I cleared my throat to grab the room's attention successfully.
"While I was not with these young ladies, I was in fact chatting with one of the other people that was in the main lobby who is in group 4, one of the waiters." I informed the security guard, who seemed to write something down.
At my mention of Wriothesley, the girls started gossiping once again.
"The waiter in group 4..?"
"Oh wait! That super cute one!"
"Cute? You call him cute? Honey I wouldn't be surprised if he did bodybuilding for a living."
"It's always the waiters."
"And did you see those scars? Aaa! He was so-"
"Ahem."
...
Once again, I cleared my throat in the same method as before to silence the room, but even I must admit it came out a bit more sternly than I would have liked.
They all looked at me in curiosity, before probably realizing how embarrassing they sounded, and all began idly fidgeting.
I was currently split into two opinions, one couldn't particularly blame them, Wriothesley certainly was very pleasing to look at, and had very good physique, however strangely.. the other half of me very much disliked their gossiping.
And I'm not sure why.
People can talk about who they'd like to talk about.
Perhaps it was the mention of his scars, I'm sure he wouldn't want strangers discussing them,
Mn, yes that's most likely it.
"So sir, let me get this straight, you didn't spend any of your evening with these girls, but only had a short chat with a waiter before the lockdown happened." The guard summarised from his notes.
"That is correct" I confirmed.
"So, no one else can confirm any other alibi you give other than that waiter?"
"No... I'm afraid not." I said with 'remorse'
"Well Sir, I'm afraid you're going to have to move onto the next room for further questioning, Ladies you're free to go." He finally announced, opening the door for me to move on as the girls began stammering once again about something or other before leaving.
As I was walking through the door, the security guard quickly stopped me.
"Sir Neuvillette, Miss Furina would like to speak to you in the next room." He said in a low tone.
"I'm completely aware thank you," I responded.
"Yes sir, but I also must warn you... she's not exactly.."
"Hm?"
"She's not the happiest person right now Sir.." He put very politely.
"Ah, I see, don't worry, I will deal with her, thank you for your work. Also, that waiter that I mentioned?"
"Yes sir?"
"Please don't question him too harshly, I wouldn't want him to get stressed."
"As you wish, Sir."
"Thank you."
And with that, I walked inside the room where Furina was furiously waiting as the guard closed the door behind me.
"Neuvillette." She stated more than asked.
"Yes, Furina?" I answered calmly.
"Is this room soundproofed?" She questioned.
"Yes, Furina." I confirmed.
She inhaled,
Then exhaled,
Then inhaled again,
Before finally...
"WHY THE HELL ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR OFFICE? WHY THE LOCKDOWN? WHY WAS I INFORMED ABOUT THIS FROM LISA OF ALL PEOPLE. HOW DID THE LIBRARIAN KNOW BEFORE I DID? I THOUGHT YOU SAID NOBODY COULD SEE YOU, AND WHY DO YOU KEEP-"
"Furina." I interrupted her with once again, a colder approach than I had intended.
Perhaps I was just feeling on edge today.
"What!?" She shouted.
"Someone broke into my office." I informed her.
She froze.
"I told you so."
I sighed in return,
"Yes, yes you did."
