-Chapter Nine-
Eyefucking your assistant.

Kenzie stole a glance at Jungkook, who was driving with a stern expression plastered over his face.

"Thank you, sir," she said finally, breaking the silence.

"For what exactly?" Jungkook asked, still focused on the road ahead.

"For calming Sarah down when she completely lost it in front of the investors. That meeting was very important," Kenzie mumbled, her fingers fiddling nervously with one another.

She hoped to hear something reassuring—perhaps that he couldn't tolerate Sarah insulting her or something that would make her heart flutter. Instead, Jungkook simply hummed in his thick voice, leaving her feeling a bit deflated.

As they continued driving, Kenzie wondered if she would ever fully understand Jungkook or if his aloofness would always keep her at arm's length.

Kenzie kept pouting, stealing glances at Jungkook. However, she scowled when she noticed the road he was taking. "Sir, this isn't the way to the office," she pointed out, frowning.

"I am dropping you home instead," Jungkook replied, making her eyes widen in surprise.

"But sir, I have my car at the office. You should drop me there, and I'll drive home from there," she exclaimed, a hint of urgency in her voice.

Jungkook shook his head in disagreement. "The meeting made it all too late for us. The office is far from the desert, and if I go all the way there to drop you and then you head home, it'll be too late. I can't let you drive alone at this late hour," he said firmly.

Kenzie felt her heartbeat quicken at his words. He cared that she would be driving alone at night. It was a small gesture, but it warmed her heart.

Despite his carefree and sometimes unserious demeanor, he was genuinely a gentleman when it mattered.

"I'll take your silence as a yes," he said in a thick, deep voice that made Kenzie's thighs shiver.

"But sir, I also need to come to the office early in the morning. There isn't any bus stop in my area, and taxis are available much later, not early in the morning because it's a private area," she exclaimed, trying to make her case.

"It's okay, I'll have someone pick you up. Nothing to be bothered about," Jungkook replied casually, reaching into his pocket to yank out his phone. He unlocked it and passed it to her.

"Here, just type your number and send a 'hi' message to yourself," he declared, his tone unbothered as he drove. "And then WhatsApp me your home location."

Kenzie hesitated for a moment, caught off guard by his straightforwardness. But before she could argue any further, Jungkook turned on the radio, filling the car with music and easing the silence between them.
