-Chapter Twenty One-
Standing in front of me as my bride. It felt like the world was judging her.
Whenever Kenzie scrolled through the news, each headline cut deeper than the last, branding her unworthy of Jungkook, as if he deserved someone better.
They didn't know her, yet they tore her apart with their words.
This was the cruel reality—people were measured by their wealth and looks. Even as the media attacked, a small part of her found solace in knowing Jungkook was trying to protect her from it all, just like he promised.
But that comfort did little to ease the ache inside.
What hurt most was his silence. After their fight, he acted like nothing happened, slipping back into his routine at the office.
During their shopping trips, he seemed fine as long as she kept her distance. Kenzie felt the weight of his indifference, avoiding any touch, fearing it would betray her after his harsh words.
If he found someone else, so be it.
He was supposed to be her husband, but deep down, she knew she was just a temporary fix for him, not the partner he truly wanted.
Kenzie was tired of Jungkook's insults and his family's harsh words dragging her down. She was already overwhelmed by slurs and hate on social media, and that was more than enough pain for her.
This marriage meant more than just a union. Even as she tried to bury her feelings for Jungkook, she knew it could help her uncover the truth behind her father's death, the downfall of their empire, the gunshot she once faced, and the mysterious fire at the Zade house, the infamous palace of the diamond family.
Still, Kenzie worried that Jungkook might end the engagement if she didn't follow his demands, so she complied, determined to play her role in this twisted game for as long as she could.
She needed two things from this marriage: justice for her father's death and Jeon Jungkook.
"Don't you think the makeup is a bit too light for such a heavy look?" Kenzie asked Melody, who was carefully assessing her final appearance.
"Well, traditionally in our family, the dress is supposed to be heavy, along with the jewelry, while the makeup stays light and soft," Melody replied, her hands still busy adjusting Kenzie's wedding look with the help of two other girls.
"This is meant to showcase the bride's natural beauty and innocence... I know it sounds twisted, but that's just how the Jeon family is. They're a bit..."
"Old-fashioned?" Kenzie interrupted, frowning.
"Stuck in the past rules," Melody corrected with a laugh.
