-Chapter Twenty Five-
She knew I was meant to be hers.

Kenzie wore a simple sky blue dress with strings tied around its waist, the sleeves puffed out gracefully. It was a lovely dress, but to her, it felt heavy.

She was used to the comfort of normal t-shirts and shorts at home, not this fancy princess attire. Yet, this was one of the rules of the Jeon family.

Just like Mrs. Jeon, Kenzie was expected to dress the part, like some royal queen.

Even though the dress choices were to her taste, wearing something so elegant at home felt excessive, especially when there was no special occasion. It felt out of place to don such finery while simply roaming the house.

"And there's nothing but heels here, not even a smaller heel or a pair of flat pumps," she groaned, shaking her head in frustration.

Jungkook's footwear was far too big for her; her foot slipped out with every step. So, in the end, she decided to walk out of the room barefoot.

Not that it was a big deal, anyhow. She preferred the freedom of her bare feet, even if it meant defying the expectations that came with her new life.

After all, she was still Kenzie, and she would navigate this world in her way.

Kenzie walked down the stairs, taking in the vast walls of the Jeon mansion. Sometimes, she even forgot just how big this place was.

She approached one of the maids and asked about Mrs. Jeon. The maid pointed her toward a certain area, leading Kenzie to the enormous kitchen.

It was her second day here, and the day before had been a whirlwind of brief introductions. She hadn't had much time to absorb it all, especially during the wedding.

As she entered the kitchen, she spotted Mrs. Jeon scrutinizing the dishes, approving and disapproving as the chefs and maids nodded in compliance with her orders.

"Good morning, Mom," Kenzie announced, stepping inside.

The tiles felt cold against her bare feet, and Mrs. Jeon looked down, her expression shifting to one of disapproval upon seeing her daughter-in-law barefoot.

"Get young madam her heels from her wardrobe," Mrs. Jeon ordered one of the maids.

The maid nodded and rushed out of the kitchen, while Mrs. Jeon maintained her stern demeanor. Moments later, the maid returned, getting down on her knees to help Kenzie into the high heels.

Kenzie looked down at the shoes now adorning her feet.

"Not allowed to be barefoot at home, either? Looks like I've just walked into a very fancy cage," she thought bitterly.

"Looks like Kenzie Zade is now Jeon Kenzie. Maybe she can't navigate this world her way... more like she needs to navigate Jeon Kendall's way."

This new life felt increasingly restrictive, and she wondered how she could maintain a sense of herself within these suffocating expectations.
