chapter 34: An Awkward Encounter

Reception Venue - Entrance

The guests have begun to arrive at the reception venue, the atmosphere filled with chatter and anticipation. Sarah, Lucas, and Stan make their way to the entrance, looking forward to enjoying the celebration. However, an unexpected and tense encounter awaits them.

As they approach, they run into Tristan, his date Iris, his mother Marissa, and his sister Rosemania. The air grows heavy with unspoken tension.

Tristan: (smiling warmly at Lucas and Stan) "Hey, Lucas. Stan looks like he's having a great time!"

Lucas: (smiling back) "Thanks, Tristan. Stan's been full of energy today."

Just then, Marissa's eyes lock onto Sarah. She gives her a dismissive once-over, clearly unimpressed. Her voice is cold and cutting.

Marissa: (looking Sarah up and down) "A trash can never be hidden by even the most expensive wrapper to cover her."

Sarah: (her eyes widen in shock, her face reddening) "Excuse me?"

Lucas: (stepping forward defensively) "Marissa, that's completely uncalled for."

Sarah: (quickly pulling Lucas back) "It's okay, Lucas. Let's just focus on having a good time."

Tristan, caught off guard, starts to reach for Stan, who has been clinging to Lucas. Stan's reaction is immediate and loud.

Stan: (shouting) "Dada!" and clinging tightly to Lucas's neck, burying his head against him.

Rosemania: (raising an eyebrow, exchanging a look with Iris) "Seems like Stan has a strong bond with Lucas."

Iris: (looking at Sarah with a hint of curiosity and judgment) "Well, it's clear he's very attached."

Sarah: (trying to compose herself, forcing a polite smile) "I'm sorry if there's been any misunderstanding. We're just here to celebrate."

Marissa: (with a cold smile) "I see."

Lucas: (gently but firmly) "Sarah, let's go inside and enjoy the reception. We don't need to let this spoil the day."

Sarah: (nodding, trying to keep her composure) "Yes, let's do that. Thank you, Lucas."

As they move past the uncomfortable encounter, Sarah feels a mixture of hurt and determination. She focuses on Stan, who is still holding onto Lucas, finding solace in his familiar embrace. The group heads into the reception, where the festivities await, but the tension from the confrontation lingers in the background.

Lucas: (comforting Sarah quietly) "Don't let them get to you. We're here to have a good time, and that's what we'll do."

Sarah: (taking a deep breath) "Thanks, Lucas. I'll try to shake this off and focus on the positive."

They enter the reception, and while the awkward encounter with Marissa and the others hangs over them, Sarah and Lucas work to put their best foot forward and enjoy the celebration, with Stan's presence providing a small comfort amidst the tension.
