It was a quiet morning at the task force headquarters when Y/N strolled in, her usual confident stride catching L's attention immediately. He sat there, hunched over in his peculiar way, his thumb pressed to his lips as he watched her. She was dressed stylishly, as always, and her presence seemed to light up the room without even trying.
L's gaze lingered on her longer than he intended. He couldn't help but wonder: Could she be Kira? Or is she truly here to help? It was a question that had been gnawing at him for days now. Y/N was smart, sharp, and unpredictable. There was something about her that kept him on edge, and that both intrigued and worried him. She was still a suspect, after all.
But today, L's mind wasn't fully on the case. As he continued to stare at her, his thoughts began to drift in a direction that surprised even him. He noticed the way her hair framed her face, the subtle curve of her smile as she greeted the others, and the effortless way she seemed to move through the room.
She's beautiful.
That thought hit him like a brick, and for a moment, he was taken aback. Why am I thinking like this? he asked himself. L was used to keeping his mind clear, focused on logic and reason, but there was something about Y/N that made it difficult today. She had always flirted with him, teased him, and while he had brushed it off as harmless banter before, now it was getting under his skin in a way he hadn't expected.
Y/N sat down at her desk, completely unaware of the internal battle going on in L's mind. She caught him staring at her a couple of times, but whenever their eyes met, L quickly looked away, pretending to be deep in thought. He wasn't sure what was wrong with him today. Usually, his mind was focused only on the case, but now... now he was finding it hard to look at her without noticing just how attractive she was.
He tried to snap out of it, turning his attention back to his work, but every now and then, his eyes would drift back to her. She had a certain charm, something that went beyond just her appearance. She was clever, quick-witted, and had this way of making even the most serious situations seem lighter.
L frowned, his thumb still at his lips as he tried to shake off the strange feelings creeping into his thoughts. He wasn't used to this, to being distracted by someone like this. Especially not while they were in the middle of such an important case. Focus, he told himself. You have to focus.
But it wasn't that easy. Y/N had always been a wildcard, unpredictable in ways that kept L guessing. And now, on top of everything else, he was finding it harder to keep his mind purely analytical when it came to her. He shifted in his seat, trying to clear his head, but his gaze wandered back to her once again.
Stop it, he mentally scolded himself. She could be Kira. You can't let yourself get distracted by...
But then, in the middle of his internal scolding, Y/N glanced up and caught him looking at her. A playful smile tugged at her lips as she tilted her head slightly, clearly noticing the way he had been staring at her.
"What's wrong, Ryuzaki? You've been staring at me all day," she teased, leaning back in her chair with that familiar flirtatious tone.
L immediately snapped out of his thoughts, his usual calm demeanor returning as he straightened up in his seat. "I'm just... thinking," he said, his voice flat, trying to sound as disinterested as possible.
"About me?" she asked, raising an eyebrow, clearly enjoying the reaction she was getting from him.
L's eyes narrowed slightly. "I think about everything," he replied cryptically, turning his attention back to his laptop, pretending to ignore her.
But Y/N wasn't fooled. She could sense something was off, though she wasn't quite sure what. For the rest of the day, L tried to stay focused on his work, but his thoughts kept drifting back to Y/N. He couldn't deny it—there was something about her that was pulling him in, something beyond just suspicion.
He kept reminding himself of the facts. She was still a suspect, part of his investigation. But at the same time, there was this nagging feeling that she wasn't Kira, that she was genuinely trying to help. And it was that uncertainty, combined with the strange new feelings he was experiencing, that left L more confused than ever.
As the day went on, L continued to fight with his thoughts. Every time he caught himself staring at her, he would quickly force himself to look away. He didn't like this feeling—this loss of control over his own mind. It wasn't logical. It wasn't what he was used to.
But by the end of the day, one thing was clear to him: Y/N wasn't just another suspect. She was something else entirely, and whatever that was, it was starting to mess with his head.
L sat back in his chair, his mind racing as he watched her from across the room, still trying to figure out what was going on. Whether she was Kira or not was still a question he had to answer, but one thing was for sure: Y/N was becoming more than just a part of the investigation.
And L wasn't sure how to handle that.
