Late afternoon had settled in the office, with only Y/N and Matsuda left sifting through stacks of reports. The quiet hum of the overhead lights filled the room, and Y/N couldn't shake a nagging thought that had been bubbling under the surface for days. She leaned back in her chair, the idea spilling out before she could second-guess it.
"Matsuda, have you ever thought that this whole thing... might be supernatural?" she asked, her voice casual but curious.
Matsuda looked up from his desk, raising an eyebrow. "Supernatural? Like ghosts or something?" He let out a small, skeptical laugh.
"Not ghosts," Y/N replied, shaking her head. "But think about it—people are just dropping dead from heart attacks, no sign of how it's happening. It doesn't make sense. We've got no physical evidence, no logical explanation. Logically speaking, it's completely unrealistic. What if there's some kind of... higher power involved?"
"Are you serious?" Matsuda chuckled nervously, scratching the back of his head. "I mean, sure, it's weird. But supernatural? That's a bit of a stretch, don't you think?"
"I know it sounds crazy," Y/N said, leaning forward, her tone sharpening. "But really think about it. No weapons, no traces, nothing that links Kira to the crime scenes. And yet, these people die on cue, like someone's snapping their fingers. It's almost like whoever's behind this is manipulating life and death itself."
Matsuda blinked, trying to process her words. "So, what are you saying? You think Kira's some kind of god?"
"Not necessarily a god," she replied. "But maybe something beyond what we understand. We're stuck looking for a person, but what if we should be looking for something else?"
He gave her a long look, then sighed. "Well, it's definitely not what I expected to hear from you today," he admitted, half-joking. "I guess anything's possible, but... if it is something supernatural, what can we even do about it?"
Y/N shrugged, her eyes drifting up to the ceiling. "That's the thing. If it is supernatural, then maybe we're searching in all the wrong places. Maybe the answer isn't going to show up in these reports or in a suspect profile. We need to consider that Kira's power might not be entirely human."
"Okay," Matsuda said slowly, clearly struggling with the idea. "But if it's something out of this world, then where does that leave us? How are we supposed to fight something like that?"
Y/N let out a dry laugh. "I'm not saying I've got all the answers, Matsuda. Hell, I'm not even saying I'm right. But I can't just ignore it. There's more going on here than we're seeing."
Matsuda glanced at her, then back at his papers, still looking a bit uneasy. "You've really thought this through, huh?" he said softly. "Well, whatever it is, you're not giving up."
"Damn right, I'm not," she shot back with a small smile. "I'll figure out what's going on, even if it's something as crazy as supernatural powers. There has to be some explanation. We just need to look beyond what we think we know."
Matsuda nodded, still skeptical but with a hint of respect in his eyes. "Well, if anyone can find the answer, it's probably you, Y/N."
She appreciated his words, even if he didn't fully buy into her theory. As she glanced at the mountain of reports in front of them, that nagging feeling wouldn't let go. Whatever Kira was—human, supernatural, or something in between—Y/N was going to find out.
Y/N showed up at Light's house that same day, catching everyone off guard. She wasn't exactly planning on it, but her gut told her to follow through with this unannounced visit. Light's mom greeted her warmly, and his little sister, Sayu, peeked out from behind her, eyes wide with curiosity.
