The rain hadn't stopped by the time Y/N and L reached his hotel room. Both were soaked to the bone, water dripping from their clothes onto the plush carpet. Y/N shivered, wrapping her arms around herself, and L, ever observant, took note.

"You're going to catch a cold," he said plainly, stepping into the room. He disappeared into the bedroom for a moment, returning with a set of his clothes—a loose white shirt and gray sweatpants. He held them out to her. "Change into these. The bathroom is through there."

Y/N hesitated for a moment before taking the clothes. "Thanks," she muttered, disappearing into the bathroom.

L remained in the main room, busying himself with tidying up the clutter of files and papers spread across the coffee table. His mind raced with thoughts.

As Y/N changed, the bathroom door was slightly ajar, allowing the reflection of the mirror to cast into the main room. L, glancing up absentmindedly, froze. Through the reflection, he caught sight of her bare back as she slipped out of her wet shirt, leaving her in nothing but her underwear. His eyes lingered for a moment, his analytical mind at war with his instincts.

She's vulnerable, he thought, quickly averting his gaze. This isn't appropriate. Focus, L.

When Y/N emerged a few minutes later, dressed in his oversized shirt and pants, L couldn't help but admire her for a second. The clothes swallowed her frame, but there was something oddly endearing about the way she looked in them. She rubbed her damp hair with a towel, glancing at him with a faint smile.

"Better?" he asked, his voice neutral as he handed her a steaming mug of tea.

"Much," she replied, settling onto the couch. She cupped the tea in her hands, letting the warmth seep into her.

L sat beside her, pulling one leg up to his chest as he sipped his own tea. "Now," he said, his tone more serious, "explain everything."

Y/N took a deep breath, organizing her thoughts. "Okay," she began. "This might sound insane, but you've got to trust me on this."

L nodded. "I'm listening."

She launched into her explanation, recounting everything she had pieced together—the shinigamis, Ryuk, and her belief that Light could see him too. She explained how she'd initially thought she was hallucinating, only to realize that Light's nonchalant reaction to Ryuk's presence meant he had been aware of the creature all along.

"And Light... he's trying to cover it up," Y/N said, her voice firm. "I think I started seeing Ryuk by accident—somehow connected to this case—but Light? He sees him with purpose. He knows exactly what he's doing."

L remained quiet, processing her words. His thumb brushed against his lips, his telltale sign of deep thought. A shinigami. If this is true, it changes everything.

Y/N leaned forward, watching his face intently. "I didn't tell you sooner because I thought..." She trailed off, biting her lip.

L glanced at her. "You thought what?"

"I thought you'd think I was crazy," she admitted, her voice quieter now. "And I thought you'd look down on me."

L frowned at that, setting his mug down on the table. "Y/N, I would never think less of you. You're too good at what you do—" He stopped and then continued.

"Oh shut up." Y/N teased.

"Seriously, Y/N you're a smart, talented..." He paused, his dark eyes meeting hers. "...and a beautiful young woman."

The air between them shifted, growing heavy and charged. Y/N's breath caught, and they locked eyes, the intensity of the moment leaving them both unsteady. L felt his pulse quicken, a rare occurrence for someone as controlled as him. He didn't feel anything romantic, but her presence in his clothes, her proximity, her strength—it was disarming.

Flustered, he glanced away for a moment, trying to refocus. But Y/N didn't let the moment pass. She leaned in, her hand gently cupping his cheek. Before he could say or do anything, she kissed him.

L didn't resist. He sat still, letting her lips press softly against his. His mind raced—analyzing, questioning, but not pulling away. When Y/N pulled back, she searched his face for a reaction.

Silence hung between them, awkward and uncertain. L's fingers brushed his own lips absently, his expression unreadable. "That was... unexpected," he finally murmured, his voice soft.

Y/N flushed. "Sorry, I don't know why I—"

"It's fine, really." L interrupted, cutting her off. His gaze softened slightly. "I actually enjoyed it. Let's just... focus on the case for now."

Y/N nodded, grateful for the escape from the awkwardness. They spent the rest of the night talking, analyzing every detail of her story and how it could change the course of their investigation. The supernatural element meant they had to approach everything differently, and L's mind went with the implications.

As time passed, they were exhausted. Y/N yawned, her head tilting to rest against the back of the couch. L noticed but didn't say anything. Eventually, Y/N fell asleep first, and he put a blanket around her, and then with a sense of comfort that he felt around her, L slowly fell asleep too. By her side, on the couch.

A/N~ Ya'll they finally kissed. LMFAOOOO.
