"Princess, ever thought of horseback riding with me?" Jungkook asked, his voice soft as he lay beside you on the bed, his arm securely wrapped around you. The night was still, and the faint glow of moonlight peeked through the window, casting a serene atmosphere in the room.
It was midnight, and as usual, Jungkook had snuck in, leaving Jimin outside to stand guard. His warm breath tickled your ear as he whispered the playful suggestion, his eyes gleaming with excitement. The thought of escaping with him on horseback, riding under the stars, was tempting—just the two of you, away from the eyes of the kingdoms.
You turned your head slightly, meeting his gaze with a smile. "And where would we ride off to, my prince?" you asked, teasing him as your fingers absentmindedly traced the lines of his hand that rested on your waist.
Jungkook chuckled softly, the sound a quiet rumble in the stillness of the room. "Anywhere the wind takes us," he replied. "Away from everything, even if just for a moment."
"Until one of our guards suddenly blocks our path," you said, chuckling softly. The image of you and Jungkook trying to escape, only to be caught by a stern-faced guard, made you laugh.
Jungkook sighed dramatically, pulling you closer. "You know just how to ruin the mood, don't you?" he teased, though his tone was playful. Deep down, he knew you were right. No matter how much they longed for freedom, the reality of your lives meant you could never openly show your affection without risking everything.
He traced gentle patterns on your arm, the weight of the truth settling between you both. "But," he added with a mischievous grin, "that won't stop me from sneaking in every chance I get. Guards or not, I'll always find a way to you."
"And I'll always wait for it," you whispered, your voice soft yet filled with conviction.
Jungkook's smile widened as he gazed into your eyes, his hand gently cupping your cheek. "Then I'll never stop coming," he said, his tone serious but laced with affection.
"Jungkook, are you hearing the news? I heard there's going to be war," you said, your voice tinged with worry as you sat up slightly, glancing at him with wide eyes.
Jungkook's expression shifted from warmth to concern at your words. He sat up as well, his brow furrowing as he looked into your eyes. "War?" he repeated, his voice filled with disbelief and worry.
You nodded, your gaze serious. "That's what I've been hearing from the council and some of the advisors. Tensions between Celestain and Everland are rising."
Jungkook sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I was afraid this would happen. The tournament was supposed to ease the tensions, not heighten them."
Your heart ached as you watched the concern deepen in his eyes. "I don't want to be on opposite sides," you whispered, your voice trembling slightly.
He took your hand, squeezing it gently. "We won't be. No matter what happens, we'll find a way," he promised, his eyes filled with determination.
"But why did it happen so suddenly? Weren't we going civil?" Jungkook asked, his tone a mix of confusion and frustration as he searched your eyes for answers.
You sighed, shaking your head slightly. "That's what everyone thought. But there have been secret negotiations falling apart, resources being fought over, and now... it's escalating. It all happened so fast," you explained, trying to make sense of the situation yourself.
Jungkook frowned, the weight of the reality settling in. "I thought we had more time... that we could prevent something like this."
You squeezed his hand, your eyes filled with both worry and determination. "So did I. But we can't lose hope. We have to stay strong, together."
