"Don't you find Mr. Park really suspicious? Or Mr. Kim? And that cleaning lady?" Jisoo asked, her tone edged with curiosity as she sipped on her coffee.
"Mr. Park and the cleaning lady, yes," you replied, your voice calm but firm. The thought of Mr. Park stirred an unsettling anger in you. After the incident in his office, you'd dug deeper into his history. It wasn't his first attempt to force himself on someone. Complaints had been made before, yet he remained untouched, protected by some unseen shield. It was clear someone higher up was backing him.
"No matter how skilled a surgeon you are, mutual respect matters," you added. "For a human or a demon."
"So, what's the plan?" Jisoo asked, leaning forward.
"We're going to trail him," you said decisively.
"Mr. Park?" Jisoo's eyes lit up with intrigue.
"Good thing I already made his usual schedule after that incident," Lee Know chimed in, a slight smirk on his face.
You raised an eyebrow at him. "Why did you do that? You weren't planning to corner him, were you?"
Lee Know's smirk vanished as he waved his hands defensively. "No, of course not! I know I'm not allowed to." He laughed awkwardly, but his shifty eyes betrayed him.
"Sure," you muttered, clearly unimpressed. "Any message from Hell?" you asked Jisoo.
"Not yet, boss," Jisoo replied, shaking her head. "Since this mission's different, we've been given more time to figure it out."
"Fine. Then let's start following."
The three of you set your plan into motion, splitting up to trail Mr. Park discreetly. As night fell, the streets grew quieter, the faint glow of streetlights illuminating your path. You took your positions, each keeping a close watch on his movements.
From your vantage point, you saw Mr. Park glance around nervously before slipping into a small, dark alley. You signaled to Lee Know, who was stationed a block away, while Jisoo texted updates from the opposite side of the street.
You stood on the edge of the sidewalk, your focus unwavering—until you heard your name.
"Y/N!"
The sound made you flinch, and you turned instinctively. Across the road stood Jungkook, waving at you with that bright smile that always seemed to disarm you.
Your heart skipped a beat.
He took a step off the curb, his excitement evident in the way his eyes lit up.
"Wait!" you shouted, panic lacing your voice.
But it was too late.
A car came speeding through the intersection, running the red light. You watched in horror as it hit Jungkook with a sickening thud. His body crumpled to the ground, lifeless.
"Jungkook!" you screamed, your legs moving before your mind could catch up.
You ran to him, tears streaming down your face. Dropping to your knees beside him, you gently cradled his bloodied face in your trembling hands. "Jungkook, stay with me," you pleaded, your voice cracking. "Keep your eyes open. Don't you dare close them!"
His eyes fluttered weakly, and he coughed, blood staining his lips. "Y/N..." he rasped, his voice barely audible.
Jisoo and Lee Know arrived moments later, their expressions shifting from concern to shock when they saw you crying. Demons didn't cry—it was unheard of. Yet here you were, tears falling freely, holding onto Jungkook as if your existence depended on it.
