June had headed to the playground after noticing some girls her age chatting and playing. Soon enough, you were out of your own emotional cage, determined to find a job as quickly as possible. This week, you planned to visit your college and initiate the process of dropping out.

As you stepped outside, lost in thought, a sudden, sharp sound startled you—a door slamming shut. It was your neighbor, Jungkook, who had just closed the door of his apartment. He glanced over, noticing your startled reaction.

"Oh, um, I'm sorry, Y/n," Jungkook said, looking embarrassed as he rubbed the back of his neck with a sheepish smile. "Didn't mean to startle you."

"Oh, no worries," you replied with a reassuring smile.

Jungkook was a sweet man, just 22, and over the past week, you both had gotten close. You had shared some details about your life, like your father's death and your horrible relatives, but you had carefully avoided mentioning the custody battle over your sister,he had said about his part as well. Jungkook had been incredibly supportive, even helping you find a job at the café where he worked.

He had a way of making your days brighter with his kindness and sweet demeanor. Whether it was a shared laugh or a moment of understanding, you found comfort in his presence.

"Unnie, please, let's gooo," June pleaded yet again, wanting to introduce you to her new friend.

"You know I have work today," you replied, though that wasn't the real reason. Kai had called regarding the payment, it was due tomorrow and it was far beyond your budget. You needed to find another way to handle the legal fees.

June pouted, looking disappointed. "Just for a little while? Please?"

You sighed, feeling the weight of your responsibilities. "I really can't today, June. Maybe tomorrow?"

June's face fell, but she nodded reluctantly. "Okay, tomorrow then," she said softly, turning to leave.

As she walked away, you felt a pang of guilt. You wished you could give her the carefree childhood she deserved, but the reality of your situation was far too demanding.

It was almost evening, and despite your best efforts to find a solution, nothing had worked. You had no other option but to call Kai and ask if it was possible to send half the amount first. Each ring made your heart beat louder, fear gripping you at the thought of him rejecting your request.

"Goo—" you started, but he interrupted you once again.

"Well, good. I got the message that I could expect the fund mail tomorrow. I'll work harder on your case," he said brusquely, and before you could respond, he ended the call.
