"Umm, continue please," you said, your nerves making your voice tremble slightly.
"You see," Jungkook began again, his eyes fixed on yours, "I never really had any friends growing up. The Kims are my cousins, and the others are like my brothers since I've known them from my diapers." He paused, his gaze softening. "But then you came into my life. You're the first person I've ever gotten close to in such a short time. You're a really great friend to me, Y/n. I'll miss you."
You felt a sharp pang in your chest at his words. Friend? Is that it, you thought, your mind racing.
The bile rose in your throat, and you quickly gulped it down, your heart feeling unbearably heavy. This was not what you expected. Were you really just friends? Did he just friend-zone you?
"A-ah, I'll miss you too," you managed to say, your voice barely above a whisper.
By 10, Jungkook had dropped you back at the hotel. The ride had been filled with an awkward silence, and the weight of unspoken words hung between you. As soon as you entered your room, Jisoo was quick to notice the change in your emotions.
She pulled you into a tight hug, and the dam inside you broke. You cried, letting out all the pain and disappointment you had been holding back. This is probably why people say that first love never works out, you thought, your sobs muffled against Jisoo's shoulder.
Soon enough, the rest of the group joined you, concern etched on their faces. They wanted an explanation. "He friend-zoned me," you sobbed uncontrollably.
"What? Did he reject you?" Hee Do asked, her voice filled with shock.
"He told me I'm a great friend to him," you replied, the sadness in your voice making it clear how deeply his words had hurt you.
"There's no way," Hee Do said, shaking her head. "Bro liked every single photo in my feed that has you in it. He didn't touch any that I was in."
"I'm just a really close friend to him now. That explains everything," you replied, your voice breaking. You felt the weight of your unrequited feelings crushing you.
Jisoo hugged you tighter, and the others offered words of comfort. You felt a little better, but the ache in your heart was still there. This was not how you imagined things would end.
The next morning, the air was heavy with the weight of your impending departure. At the airport, the atmosphere was a mix of excitement and melancholy as everyone gathered to say their goodbyes. You tried to keep a brave face, but your heart felt like it was shattering with every passing second.
Jungkook stood off to the side, his hands buried in his pockets, looking as conflicted as you felt. His eyes kept flicking over to you, filled with a mixture of emotions you couldn't quite decipher.
"Y/n, it's been amazing getting to know you," Jimin said, pulling you into a warm hug. "We'll miss you."
"I'll miss you guys too," you replied, trying to keep your voice steady.
Namjoon and Seokjin gave you encouraging smiles and quick hugs, while Hoseok and Yoongi offered some playful words of comfort.
"It's not a goodbye, just a 'see you later'," Taehyung said, his eyes kind but sad.
Finally, Jungkook stepped forward. The world seemed to pause as he approached you. He opened his mouth to say something, but then closed it again, clearly struggling to find the right words.
"Y/n, I..." He hesitated, his eyes searching yours.
You forced a smile, not wanting to break down in front of everyone. "I'll miss you, Jungkook. Thanks for everything."
