Heya! Sorry for those who care. I had some massive writers block and I probably started and ended about 10 stories before finishing this one. But hopefully you like this :D

______

Going to a different world is terrifying. Who knows what could be on the other side. There could be a ton of monsters. Maybe just existing in that world is enough to kill you. It could be anything.

But the question of "What's on the other side" is a question that will be answered shortly. The people of this world learned about another. A world parallel to their own. A place called Subspace. But no one knows what it is. What it does. Or who could be there. And this lack of knowledge is terrifying. So some select group of people set up a research team to figure it out.

The moment they find a way to get to Subspace they begin looking for a volunteer. And one would pop up on their doorstep.

Lucas is walking through the streets of Onett with a flier in hand. A flier for a volunteer position to enter Subspace. Ness is walking alongside him. "You sure about this? It could be dangerous." Lucas just smiles at his friend. Showing off his innocent smile. Despite every bad thing that has happened to him at this point, he still shows off that smile. It's always been a source of inspiration for Ness.

"What could go wrong?"

"Anything! You'd be going to a whole new world. What if they have giants and you get stepped on the moment you enter?" Ness's concern is palpable.

This world is unique in its own. Locations look almost stitched together crudely. Roboticly mechanical landscapes go into deserts which go directly into snowy mountains which then connect to deep lush forests. It's odd. And the weather for each quadrant never clashes with each other. It's almost like places in other worlds were ripped out and forced to attach like a DIY Jigsaw puzzle.

The boys leave the town of Onett which is a hotspot for living. Even needing a ton of new buildings that were thankfully built rather quickly. Despite walking with Lucas, Ness still feels that immense stress about the situation. He cares a lot for Lucas. And the risks of this kind of volunteer job is obvious. Lucas can feel this stress emitting from Ness. So he stops.

"Ness, it's going to be ok." He grabs Ness's hands softly. Allowing the two boys to stare into each other's eyes. Each having a look that seems to show romance more than friendship. "I'm stronger than I look."

"I know you are, but this...it's scary."

"I know. But I want to prove to them I'm capable of doing such things. I want to show everyone I'm good enough." And that's the reason he's doing this. Ever since he's been in this new world he's been challenged in ways he wouldn't imagine. But even after everything he's done. After everything he's tried to do. Everyone just looks at him like a kid. A kid who can't do anything. This is his chance to prove he's so much more.

"You are good enough, Lucas, better than anyone can imagine," Ness tries to convince him, wanting him to back out of this.

"I'm glad you think so." Lucas turns to look at a strange building in the middle of the plain area right outside Onett. "But I need them to know too." He lets go of Ness and walks off toward the building. The building itself looks more like some kind of airport hangar. The large door is permanently open and as Lucas gets closer and closer he can see a few people inside already. Ness can do nothing but sigh and run off.

"If this is what you feel you have to do..." They continue through the plain area toward the hangar. Eventually, the people inside the hangar realize the two are inbound so they smile and turn around.

"Lucas! I'm glad you volunteered," the leader of this small group says. He's got some red clothes and blue overalls. He walks over and extends his hand for the boy.
