A table of four boys. Silence between them as they each exchange glances. A scheme on all of their eyes. And their mouths hidden behind playing cards. They're playing a very serious game of Go-Fish. Lucas, a blond boy, looks forward to his twin brother, Claus. Claus and Lucas have a very similar appearance, being twins and all. Although, Claus has green eyes and orange hair while Lucas has the aforementioned blond hair with a pair of blue eyes. "Claus...do you have a two?" Lucas's normally high pitched voice is deeper. Darker. More focused as his eyes are squinted and directed right into those green eyes. Looking for the slightest sign of a lie. The boys take this game very seriously.
Claus is silent. His green eyes briefly move down to look at his cards. The silence continues as he moves his head back up to meet with Lucas's. A single sigh leaves Claus's mouth as he grabs a card from his hand of five and flicks it over for Lucas to catch. "I just pulled that, you've gotta be cheating!" Lucas just winks before putting the card down and joining it with three other twos.
"Hazah!! Take that, I win!!" Everyone looks over to see Lucas having a majority of cards. No matter what anyone has or can get, no one will be able to surpass Lucas's number. Thus, making him the winner.
"Ugh," Claus scoffs as he tosses his hand of cards onto the table. The other two just calmly put their cards down. They also have those defining glowing eyes. One pair being red whilst the other is green. But no one brings that up. As if they just don't notice it. "I swear, you cheated!"
"Nope, it's just called skill, ya scrubs," Lucas stays with a sarcastic voice as he stands up. He looks at the other two and winks. "Better get those wallets ready for tomorrow boys." Lucas just scoffs as he backs into the door to open it up. They were in a diner they always frequent after school. Today was no different.
But it's about to change.
Lucas continues laughing softly before putting in a set of earbuds. He likes listening to music as he makes his way home. It's always relaxing after a long day of schoolwork. He waits at a crosswalk as he taps his foot. Waiting for the sign to say he can cross. His foot tapping to the beat of the song he's listening to. Truly blissful to the world around him. And then he crosses. Crosses when he's told he can. He doesn't see a need to look both ways as who's crazy enough to ram right through the crosswalk when it's his turn to cross.
That mentality quickly comes to bite him in the butt.
Claus leaves the diner to catch up to Lucas. But not too long after leaving the diner, he sees a car barreling down the road not too far from the crosswalk. The car is fast. Far too fast. He looks back to Lucas who's just taking his time to cross. Panic quickly courses through Claus as he rushes toward Lucas. "Lucas!!" Lucas can't hear him though. The music's too loud. He's too blissful. He just won a free lunch too. Life couldn't be better. "Lucas!!!" Claus's voice was blood curling. His voice is so loud that it hurts him. Loud enough to cut through Lucas's music. Causing him to slow to a halt and turn around.
"Quiet up will you? I'm listening–" A loud honk is the last thing Lucas hears before everything goes black. No feelings. No thoughts. Nothing.
_______
Slowly but surely, Lucas opens his eyes. He doesn't know where he is. But whatever he's laying on feels oddly hollow. As if it's nothing at all. Either way, he decides to sit up and rub his head. He finally takes some time to look around. He recognizes this place. It's the school's nurse's office. He's lying on one of the beds. He doesn't get much more time alone before he hears a soft spoken voice. He looks over to see a boy that looks about his age. He's got some pretty purple eyes with some tan skin. "Hi?" Lucas speaks. He doesn't recognize the boy. The school is huge so he's not expected to know every single person.
