Chapter 40-⚠️Ghosts of the lagoon⚠️

*takes place during and after the last chapter*

Our rescue trio waited at the bandshell on the Enchanted Lake. It was early in the morning, around 6 AM. Red and Chloe were curled up together, trying to sleep, while McCain was sitting on a bench, watching the sunrise. By the time it hit 7 AM, McCain had awoken the two teens, and they began to grab their gear in preparation for another trip to the past. At exactly 7:30 AM, on the north end of the enchanted lake, our trio headed back to 1995. As the world materialized around them, they headed for the woods to find McCain's truck, the plan was simple, they where going to spend the day scouting the lagoon and the VK's schedule, so they could run in and rescue Bridget without interference. McCain knew the general area of where he had parked the truck and had headed off in that direction, the girls following close behind. Soon, they had entered the small trail that led to the dark blue pickup truck, McCain immediately went to the rear and opened the tailgate before handing Red and Chloe two cheap walkie talkies.(the type you'd see at walmart), Due to it being 1995, McCain had no digital radio communication systems, but he did have a set of analog 2-way walkie talkies that didn't need a digital transmission tower. The girls took the radios while McCain strapped it to his vest, McCain hopped in the truck and moved it to the treeline while the girls ran back towards the lagoon. Red and Chloe split up, Chloe going along the other end of the lagoon while Red was near the entrance, McCain on the side oposing Chloe. The trio waited for what seemed like hours and had still seen nothing, Red was becoming impatient.

R-"If they aren't here, can we just go in and rescue my mom?"

M-"They may be inside. We can't risk it."

No sooner than McCain finished talking, the VK's emerged from the walkway to Red's left side. Luckily, they hadn't heard her or her radio. Red watched the VK's enter the fish.

R-"The VK's just went inside."

M-"See what I meant?"

R-"Yes."

McCain and Chloe had started to move closer to Red's position as they heard some screaming and yelling from inside the fish. McCain had made it to Red's side just in time for the fishes mouth to open back up, Chloe dropped to the floor of the forest as she saw it open. The VK's emerged, what none of the trio expected was then to be carrying a naked Bridget along with them. Red and McCain looked at each other, then at the pathway as the VK's came closer. Red pulled her gun, taking aim through the bushes, but McCain stopped her. The Vk's continued to walk away, unaware.

R-"What the fuck?"

M-"We need a better plan than this, I have an idea."

McCain hopped on his radio.

M-"Chloe, get over here."

Chloe ran over to them as McCain got up and ran toward his truck.

C-"Where's he going?"

R-"I have no idea."

Red and Chloe entered the path the VK's had just gone down, guns drawn, as McCain went around the path in his truck, attempting to cut off the VK's. The VK's were unaware of anyone's presence until a dark blue pickup with red and blue lights blaring "Bad Boys" through its siren speakers cut them off. The VK's stopped as McCain hopped out of the truck, his rifle braced against the hood, pointing at the VK's.

M-"All of you let me see your hands!"

Uliana smirked but raised her hands none the less as the other VK's followed suit. Red and Chloe had snuck up behind them aswell, hiding behind a tree.

M-"Alright, Uliana, step forward slowly."

Uliana did as instructed until she was hit with bullets, falling to the floor in pain. McCain begins to mag dump the VK's. One by one, they tumble to the ground. Red and Chloe run up behind the VK's as McCain moves forward, rifle still raised, its then Uliana notices its painted red.

U-"Your magic bullets aren't gonna save you."

McCain slinged his rifle and drew his lethal pistol, pointing it directly at Uliana.

M-"This one has the non magic bullets, wanna try me?"

Uliana shook her head as the VK's watched Red and Chloe pick up Bridget from the ground, helping her to McCain's truck. McCain moving closer to Uliana.

M-"Keep your hands up and turn around."

Uliana complied, turning to face the other VK's. Uliana mouthed something to Maleficent without McCain knowing. McCain holstered his gun as he grabbed his cuffs. He moved to cuff Uliana, but she ducked, and Maleficent jumped over her, hitting McCain in the chest, which sent them both to the ground. Uliana and Hades moved in to assist, the three villains holding McCain down. Red and Chloe had just gotten Bridget into the truck when they heard the commotion, Chloe looked back and took off in a sprint towards the brawl.

R-"Chloe stop!"

Red ran after Chloe, but she couldn't stop what happened next. Morgie grabbed Chloe as she ran to assist McCain, pulling her to the ground. She then got held down by the VK's. Uliana pulled her pocketwatch out quickly. She pulled the gold chain across Chloe's neck tight, cutting off her airway as all of the VK's grabbed the rest of the chain.

R-"McCain, stop them!"

McCain went to get up, but it was already too late. The VK's and Chloe disappeared into a ball of light. Red stopped as she got next to McCain, who looked upset.

R-"God dammit."

M-"Red... They have my gun."

Red looked at McCain's empty holster.

R-"Fuck."

Red and McCain hurried back to the truck before Red sent them back to 2025. McCain drove them back to Wonderland, it was a tense car ride to say the least, Red was pissed at the VK's, McCain, Chloe, and herself, the only person she wasn't pissed at surprisingly was her mother. Red knew she had to go save Chloe, even if she died or got captured trying. But right now, she was focused on getting her mother safe. As the pickup entered the courtyard of Bridget's castle, the guards came near, but Red stopped them, explaining to Jack the situation. Red ran into the castle to grab something for Bridget to wear before they all moved her to the castle medical bay. Red remembered this room as a dungeon, but she didn't let that bother her as the nurses and doctors looked over Bridget. Within an hour, Bridget was cleared to leave, but the physical injuries were not the issue. Red walked with her mother up to Bridget's room, as they entered, Bridget fell on the bed.

R-"Mom, you wanna talk about it?"

Bridget only shook her heard before getting under the covers, it was unnerving for her not to hear her mother talk.

R-"Alright, I've gotta go save Chloe now, take care."

She went to exit.

B-"Red?"

Red turned to face her mother.

R-"Yes?"

B-"Get your girl back, and kill that squid."

Red smiled. Her mom gave her a small one as Red exited the room, shutting the door behind it, the guards bowing before her. She went to meet up with McCain, who was calling some of his coworkers.

R-"We gotta go save Chloe."

M-"I know, I'm calling Troy down here to help us."

R-"We gotta go now. They can't hurt her like they did my mom."

McCain looked at Red, then told his brother never mind.

R-"Thank you."

Red looked at the wrist watch, she was surprised to see Uliana had gone only a year back, 1994. Red grabbed McCain's hand and then put the chain of the pocketwatch over the trucks mirror.

R-"Ready?"

M-"As I'll ever be."

Red hit the button, and they both disappeared into the time vortex.

Well, Bridget is safe, but poor Chloe can't catch a break. What will happen next is anyones guess, hell, I dont even know fully, or do I? Anyways, 10 chapters left in the story. I wonder what's gonna happen.
