Prologue

Do I actually want to be there? That’s up for a very, very heavy debate. On one hand, I’m more than thankful to be not be at home, being pestered with things everyone already knows the answer to. On the other hand, did I really just give away my entire summer to go see people I haven't in years and give free labor?

Yes. Seeing as I’m on a plane near sundown, it would appear so.

Mom thinks this will be good for me. Said it would help me get back in touch with my roots. That's code for, “your hobbies are disappointing because they're too city and not country enough so this should make you a true Texas again” or something. I don't know. It sucks so I try not to think about it too much.

On the bright side, I got the windowseat. That means I get a few nice sky pictures, even if they'll still be kind of amateur. I mean technically I’m still an amateur anyway, but it could be worse. I guess. It could always be worse though so that doesn't really mean much, does it?

That's another reason they're sending me away that they won't admit to. The “pessimistic attitude” though I prefer the term realistic.

I’m not sure how sending me from the suburbs to the farm I was born in will fix that, if I do need to be fixed, but I guess I have all summer to figure that out.
