I hadn't expected to wake up with my arms wrapped around her and her close to my chest, one of her hands loosely holding my arm and her other on my shoulder. Honestly. This was never something that had happened before when we shared a bed. Ever.
It was like my subconscious knew this was allowed now. That I could cuddle her like this, legs tangled together and bodies pressed so close together.
I had never woken up before her either so that was another surprise. Lots of things have been surprises though.
Mumbling something incoherent, she buried her face in my neck, her breath warm on my usually cold skin. All of me seemed warmer now. Having her so close to me made me warm. Not just because of body heat. Because even after all the embraces we shared, the tight hugs when we saw each other when one of us got back from vacation the other wasn't allowed on, the hand holding as we sat on the roof, the ones that would take forever to explain, this one was different. It was a good different though. It was a change I really wanted.
With a halfhearted groan, she looked up at me, her eyes meeting mine. Not seeming caught off guard in the slightest about the position, she pulled herself out of my hold, her feet resting on the floor.
“You’ve got two options today,”She spoke, her voice a little groggy.
“Which are?”
“You can either work outside with your aunt or stay inside with me. I have nine dozen cookies to make, and I don't use the ready made stuff.”
“So you just start from scratch?”
“Mhm. It's relaxing.”
“Sounds stressful. Who are we even making these all for?”
“Thomas, Teresa, Sonya, Harriet, my parents, your aunt, you, and me.”
“And everyone needs twelve?”
“Thomas never stops eating, Teresa saves them for after dinner, Sonya and Harriet need something besides diner food on their break, my parents are two people, your aunt keeps them in the fridge to snack on throughout the day, I eat them in here before bed, and I’ll eat yours if I run out. Unless you eat ‘em first.”
“I appreciate the honesty I guess.”
“So which is it?”
“I guess I’m learning how to make cookies.”
“Had a feeling it would be that. You get dressed if you want. I’ll see you in the kitchen.”
Standing up, she walked out, her usually neat and tight braid now having random strands sticking out and uneven parts. She didn't seem to care much, but maybe she went to fix it. I don't know yet. I mean I don't exactly care either. It looks pretty on her either way.

Pajamas. Pajamas and not even brushed out hair. The only change was socks seeing as the hardwood floors are absolutely freezing despite the awful heat outside.
“Thomas likes chocolate chip, your aunt and Sonya like peanut butter, Teresa and Harriet like snickerdoodle, my parents like oatmeal raisin, I eat whatever’s left, and hopefully your favorite is still sugar cookies,”She listed, placing five bowls of homemade dough from the fridge on the counter.
“Yeah. It is,”I nodded, my eyes widening in surprise for a moment at the way she remembered as I placed the other three by them.
“That's good. I was thinking it changed since you didn't eat them last time,”She shrugged, pulling some of her hair out of her face.
