“We're back!”She announced, swinging the door open. Brutus, hearing the commotion, ran over to her, spinning in a circle before jumping up. Laughing, she rubbed his back, trailing her hands through his thick black fur.
“How was everyone?”She asked from the kitchen.
“Great as always.”
“Pretty good.”
“Thought so. I take it y’all are hungry?”
I eagerly nodded as she said yes, starving for almost anything at this point. We had a pretty big breakfast before we left, but that didn't change the lack of lunch.
“Dinner’s in five. You two go wash up,”She instructed as Y/N got the dog off of her and headed inside. I followed her in, shutting the door behind me.
We looked at each other for a long moment, a silent challenge being given as her eyes narrowed in determination. An action I couldn't help but return.
As the imaginary timer went off, we both sprinted, feet hitting the hard floor. As I tried to pass her, she put her arm out, forcing me to stay at least beside her. Placing my hand on the wall, I started going as fast as I was capable of.
Not fast enough though as she ran to the bathroom door, opening and slamming it shut. Throwing my head back, I let out a groan, crossing my arms in defeat.
Still, I couldn't help but smile as everything was exactly the way it was supposed to be. I’m with her, racing the safest person to be competitive with. Whether I win or lose, I don't have to worry about hurt feelings. The gloating is playful and teasing. It was actually enjoyable, and I think that says a lot about the relationship we’ve always had. From a healthy friendship to healthy romance, she’s so obviously the perfect match.

Once again, we were back to back, me reading as she sketched something. It was nice to sit in silence and just take in each other's presence. I honestly think I’d go crazy if we didn't have times like this. It's even better than alone time, something people don't usually get. I don't always want to be doing something with someone. Sometimes I just want to exist by the person I love.
With footsteps approaching the door, I put my book down for a moment. As expected, there was a knock. At the same time, we said she could come in.
Opening the door, she looked at both of us just together with an almost knowing smile? Or maybe I’m just imagining it. This was such an innocent sight. There's no way it gave something away.
“Goodnight you two.”
“Goodnight.”
“Sleep well.”
“You too. I’ll see ya’ in the morning,”She said before shutting the door and heading off to bed. As she did I could no longer feel Y/N moving, letting me know she stopped drawing.
“Grab a jacket and shoes,”She urged when we could no longer hear her. Getting off the bed, she slipped hers on, tying them.
“I take it I can't know why?”I sighed, tugging my hoodie over my head.
“I haven't given you a bad surprise yet so I don't know why you're worried,”She shrugged, pulling her jacket past her arms and zipping it up.
“I’m just not a big surprise person.”
“Well, you find out tonight so it’s not like the suspense will last,”She pointed out as she put her feet over the window and hopped down two feet.
Okay, I’ll admit it. I still would never mind sneaking out with her.
I grabbed my camera, putting it around my neck. I might need to document whatever adventure we’re going on.
