Tohma Ishibashi.
The most perfect man you've ever met.
At least in your opinion he was.

The monocled ghoul worked tirelessly day and night for Frostheim, taking up not only the role of Vice-captain, but Captain as well.

He does this all while maintaining a charm and elegance. Not to mention how incredibly well put together he was for someone managing so many things on his plate.

Tohma was practically the all rounder of Frostheim. Not only does he complete mountains of work punctually, he also keeps the ice castle safe from any threats that may harm Frostheim.

Initially, you admired the ghoul, for his hardwork and resilience especially since the Captain wasn't someone easy to work with.

You made sure you interacted with him whenever you visited Frostheim, wanting to know more about him.

No matter how busy you knew Tohma was, he always invited you to tea whenever you visited. Then, the two of you would spend time talking about anything and everything. Occasionally, you would play chess, which appeared to be something the ghoul was fond of.

Overtime, you found yourself taking a liking to the ghoul.

It was troublesome when what used to be normal messages from him, started to feel like they had a hidden meaning to them.

"Would you like to accompany me to see the Captain?"
He asked, an inviting smile on his face.

How could you say no?

If you could spend more time with him it was automatically a yes.

He offered his hand to help you up the stairs to Kamurai's large frosty doors.
He was always such a gentleman.

With Tohma standing right beside, you didn't seem to mind the glare that the captain of Frostheim was giving you.

Even when he had excused himself for work, leaving you and Jin to discuss a report, your mind wandered when your next encounter with Tohma might come.

He had been nothing but encouraging through your time in DarkWick, and even went out of his way to tutor you about anomaly history.
Anytime you were injured after an investigation, he would send you well wishes and a single flower.

Before you knew it, you had completely fallen for him and all the small things he does for you.

There was once where you had forgotten to bring and umbrella to class, only to find out it was pouring heavily outside.

No way you could run all the way back to the cathedral without filing in for a sick day the next lesson.

It seemed like that was the only option, until somebody held an umbrella up beside you.

"Tohma, how come you're here? I thought you didn't n't have lessons today?"
You asked, surprised to see the monocled ghoul.

"Is it wrong for me to walk around the school to take a break from work then?"
He sighed dramatically.

"No no, of course not! I'm just surprised, that's all,"
You beamed.

"Well, i am going to walk pass the cathedral in my route, care to join me for a short walk?"
Once again, he offered his arm for you to hold.

Hooking your arm in his, the butterflies in your stomach went wild again.

It was clear to you now, you had to tell him how you feel soon.

------------------------☆---------------------------

"I'm afraid you have mistaken my kindness for interest."
Tohma bowed his head low,
"It is the Captain who has taken a liking to you, i am only here to relay his acts of affection.
I apologise for any misunderstandings caused."

"I see... Sorry, forget i said anything then,"
He heard you force out a laugh, he could hear the hurt in your voice without even looking at you.

Only when he was sure that you had left, did he dare to raise his head again.
His mask was sure to have fallen if he had seen the sorrowful look on your face.

But it was the right choice, he thought.
If Jin Kamurai has expressed his interest for you, he can only step aside for him, it was his job.

No, it was the only choice.
He is but an aide, a mere servant to Jin. His personal feelings didn't matter in this case, they were irrelevant to begin with.

Truthfully, Tohma had been a bit too greedy. Any scraps of time he had, the Vice-captain would make excuses just to see you.
He tutored you because he loved your serious look and how you lips curled into a smile at the right answer.
He loved the way your brows knitted together when you found yourself in an inevitable checkmate.
Your drive to complete the ridiculous tasks DarkWick gives you, stirred him to work harder in his place.

So when he knew of his master's feelings for you, he felt a pang of envy.
Why must it have been you? For him to love so freely, it was unfair.
All the times Jin called for you only, he wormed his way in to escort you to the Captain.

Tohma never did like the rain. But when he saw you that day under the shelter as it showered from the skies, he felt blessed for once. Never in his life had he been happier on a rainy day.

His phone vibrated, as more task notifications filled the screen.

Alas, he knew deep down there had never been a chance. There was no time for someone like him to be meddling with love anyway.

So, he had to force himself
to forget.
Forget that
you had ever loved him.
