MASON THREATENED MIA
The next morning, Mia woke up late, nursing a hangover. She rubbed her eyes, and Nora promptly offered her some pills, which she swallowed before drinking water.
"How did I get home?" Mia asked, squinting.
Nora's enthusiasm was palpable. "Oh, girl, how could you forget that unforgettable moment? Bryson brought you home and even kissed you! So romantic!"
Mia's cheeks flushed as she covered her face and screamed.
"What's wrong?" Nora asked, concern etched on her face.
Mia's embarrassment poured out. "I remember it all – I vomited on the table and played in the rain. Oh no!" She cried, and Nora's laughter filled the room.
"You know how silly you can be when drunk," Nora teased.
Mia's anxiety intensified. "I can't go to work today; I can't face him." Just then, her phone rang, and her heart skipped a beat.
"Oh no, he's calling me," she muttered, picking up.
"Hi, baby," Bryson's soothing voice said.
Mia quickly composed herself. "I'm sorry, boss; I won't be coming to work today. I woke up late with a hangover."
Bryson chuckled. "Boss? Not again, baby. Okay, I understand. But I'll miss you. We can have another dinner together you know" he teased.
Mia panicked. "No" She screamed and heard him chuckled. " It's fine baby, I must admit you look so beautiful when playing in the rain and I love that blush on your face when drunk" she heard him teased and she quickly ended the call, her cheeks still flushed.
Nora laughed out loud. "Love is beautiful! I'm not single, you know." She teased, dialing Husayn's number.
Mia remained lost in thought when her phone rang again.
"Oh, Bryson, not again," she thought, but an unknown number flashed on the screen.
Hesitant, she picked up.
"Hi, Miss Mia," a male voice said.
"Do I know you?" Mia asked, her tone icy.
"I'm just a concerned friend, here to discuss business. I'm going to send you an address now so meet me at this address by noon." The caller hung up.
Mia's perplexity deepened.
Bryson stared at Mia's picture on his phone, missing her already. His phone rang; Sophia's name flashed on the screen and his smile was replaced with a frown.
"What the heck!" He yelled, ending the call.
At the designated address, Mia waited impatiently and after what seemed like an eternity a man in dark glasses and a face mask approached.
"Hello, Miss Mia," he greeted jovially.
Mia frowned. "Who are you?"
"We don't need introductions, but if you insist, I'm Mason. I've come to warn you."
Mia's heart skipped a beat.
"That name, Mason... it rings a bell! where have I heard it?" She thought nervously.
Mason's voice jolted her back. "I'm here to give you a warning, Quit working for Bryson and run for your dear life."
Mia's petrification was palpable.
"What! You must be joking! Who are you?" Mia yelled angrily.
The man chuckled. "Choose between Bryson and your life; quit within forty-eight hours or you'll be dead." He walked away after dropping the bombshell.
Mia shouted after him as tears trickled down her cheeks, "I'll never quit working for Bryson!" she was really disturbed as she hailed a cab and hurried home.
Nora was at work, so Mia was alone. "What should I do?" She cried out.
Suddenly, she remembered Bryson telling her about his family sometimes ago. "Oh my gosh! Mason is Bryson's stepbrother; how could I have forgotten?" She cried out.
Sophia arrived in the States, smiling. "I've missed this place. Let's visit Bryson tomorrow." She thought to herself as the thought of Bryson made her blushed, she would be so thrilled to see him again.
The next day at work, Mia greeted Bryson, her mind racing.
Bryson stared at Mia, sensing something was wrong. "What's wrong with my girlfriend? She doesn't look fine," he thought.
He called her to his desk. "Baby, what's wrong? You look disturbed."
Mia flashed a smile, but it couldn't hide her worried look.
"I'm fine, sweetheart; I think I can handle it," Mia replied.
Bryson wasn't convinced.
In his office...Mason listened to their conversation, having placed a bug in Bryson's office through the help of his former P.A without the Bryson knowing about this.
"That bitch! Now I understand; they're dating. This will make things easier," Mason thought as he clenched his fists in anger.
Bryson caressed Mia's hand. "You know you can tell me anything, right? I'm your boyfriend and boss."
Mia hesitated.
She paced around the office, hesitating on whether to tell Bryson about it or just keep it to herself and just then, she spotted the bug.
"Baby?"
"Yes, darling?" Bryson replied.
"Did you place a bug in your office?"
Bryson was stunned.
Mason was shocked in his office when he heard this, he knew he has been exposed.
"That bitch! Things haven't gone my way since she became Bryson's PA. It's time to get rid of her; she'll complicate issues."
Bryson removed the bug. "Someone's been spying on me and my company."
Mia was stunned.
Bryson destroyed the bug immediately. "Good riddance to bad rubbish; you'll be exposed soon." He said, fully aware of the spy on him listening to this. Mia was stunned as she couldn't find the right word to say as she stared at Bryson who was irated.
