THE PSYCHOPATH

"Who's at the door?" Mia asked, rubbing her eyes.

"Dunno, let me check," Nora replied, standing up. She opened the door, only to slam it shut immediately. "Psychopath," she muttered, returning to the room as the banging on the door intensified.

"Don't pull down my house, please!" Nora shouted in frustration.

"Dylan, right?" Mia asked.

"Oh yes, your crazy boyfriend. Please go deal with him before he pulls down the house," Nora said nonchalantly.

Mia sighed and stepped out to face Dylan, his handsome face contorted with anger – a trait that both fascinated and intimidated her.

"Yes? What do you want?" Mia asked in a low voice.

"Seriously, Mia, are you asking me that? Why are you so inconsiderate? Do you know how much I've missed you?" Dylan asked angrily.

"Oh please, Dylan, cut the crap. Thanks to your madness, I lost another job," Mia said, tears streaming down her face.

"You... What do you mean by that?" Dylan asked, his anger subsiding.

"I lost my fifth job because of your stupidity. Now, tell me, would you be responsible for this?" Mia cried out.

Nora stepped out, her face contorted in anger. "Oh Mia, seriously? I didn't know that's what happened, making you drink yourself to stupor. This is crazy, Dylan. I think it's time to break up with my friend; she isn't worth all this stress."

"Hey Nora, I didn't come here for you, so don't interfere in my love life," Dylan retorted.

"Nora, please, can you excuse us for a few minutes?" Mia pleaded, flashing a faint smile.

Nora glared at Dylan before hissing and entering the house. "I wonder where you got her from?" Dylan asked angrily, but Mia just glared at him, remaining silent.

"What do you mean by you lost your job? Is this about that stupid boss of yours? Then good riddance to bad rubbish. I'll make sure to get you a job in the company where I work..."

Mia cut him off, "Dylan, let's take a break from this relationship. I'm not breaking up with you now, but let me breathe for a while. You're suffocating me."

Dylan held her hand tightly, shedding tears. "Mia, my love, my heart beats for you, and I cannot resist this feeling I have for you. I can never live without you; you are a part of me."

"Oh please, Dylan, you were living fine before you met me," Mia said, her voice firm but laced with emotion.

"Not until I met you, Mia. You are my world; you make my life so beautiful," Dylan replied, his eyes pleading.

"I know you love me, and that's why I'm giving you another chance in my life after all you've done to me. But give me a week's break for now; I don't want to see you," Mia said finally, her voice resolute as she entered the house, slamming the door behind her.

"I will never leave you, Mia! I will not stop loving you until I stop breathing!" Dylan shouted after her, his voice echoing through the empty street as he entered his car and drove off to his house.

He came out of the car and saw Kyle, his best friend, waiting for him with a wide grin. "I've been waiting for you all day, mehn!" Kyle exclaimed.

Dylan said nothing, his face a picture of gloom, as he opened the door and entered, sitting tiredly on his sofa. Kyle followed, tweaking his ear playfully. "What's up, lover boy?"

Dylan shook his head, his expression unchanging. "Leave me alone, playboy. I want to be alone."

Kyle's grin faltered, and he became serious. "Is this about Mia? What have you done to the innocent girl again?"

Dylan sighed, rubbing his temples. "She lost her job."

Kyle shook his head. "Not again, Dylan. You've been doing this over and over. Stop being overprotective of Mia; she's not a kid."

Dylan looked up, his eyes flashing with defensiveness. "It ain't my fault, guy. You know that I love her so much; her love is my breakfast, lunch, and dinner."

Kyle placed a hand on his shoulder. "Lover boy, I understand, but you need to act wisely."

Meanwhile, Mia sat in her room, lost in thought, until Nora's question broke the silence. "I hope you've broken up with him?"

Mia sighed, tears welling up in her eyes. "I just gave him a break; I can't bring myself to break up with a guy I've loved and dated for three years."

Nora's expression turned sympathetic. "There you go again, Mia. Well... good luck to you, lover girl. So, how are you going to get another job?"

Mia thought for a moment before answering. "Mum must not know about this; she's going to kill me."

Nora's question brought her back to reality. "How did it happen?"

Mia explained, her voice cracking. "He called me and I told him I was at work, but he came into the company and dragged me out, causing a ruckus. When Mr. Christopher found out, he fired me."

Nora shook her head. "This is the fifth job, Mia, for crying out loud. It's not easy to find a job these days. This is your story, so rewrite it."

Mia pleaded, her voice barely above a whisper. "Nora, I'm sorry, but you know you can do anything for love. Please promise me that you will keep this a secret from Mum."

Nora nodded, pulling Mia into a hug. "Fine! No matter how crazy your actions are, I will always be here for you."

They both cried out loudly, releasing their emotions.
