Chapter 10: The Awkward Conversation
The night was still and calm, but for J-Hope, the peaceful atmosphere in their home was disrupted by thoughts of his mother’s earlier conversation. It was the first week of his marriage to Suga, and while everything felt new and exciting, the notion of becoming a parent loomed heavily in his mind. He had never really considered it before, and now that his mother was insisting on it, he felt both anxious and curious.
After the family dinner, everyone had dispersed to their own rooms, and J-Hope found himself pacing the living room, waiting for Suga to come out of the bathroom. His heart raced with anticipation. The coffee he had prepared earlier was still warm, and the comforting aroma filled the air, adding to the cozy atmosphere of their bedroom.
When Suga finally emerged, freshly washed and looking somewhat relaxed, J-Hope’s heart fluttered. He walked into their bedroom, balancing a cup of coffee in his hands, and offered it to Suga with a bright smile. “Here you go, honey,” he said, trying to lighten the mood, though a slight tension lingered in the air.
Suga accepted the cup with a soft “thank you,” but the silence that enveloped them felt thicker than usual. J-Hope, typically chatty and full of energy, found it strange that neither of them spoke. They had been married for a week, and while they were still getting used to this new phase of their lives, the distance between them felt palpable.
Suga sipped his coffee, and just as he was about to relax, J-Hope blurted out the question that had been nagging at him all evening. “How is a baby made?”
Suga nearly choked on his coffee, his eyes widening in disbelief. He spluttered, the hot liquid nearly spilling from the cup. “W-Why are you asking something like that?” he stammered, his cheeks flushing a bright shade of red.
J-Hope, still innocent in his confusion, explained, “My mom asked me today if we were going to have a baby, and I told her I didn’t know how it’s made. So now I’m asking you.”
Suga’s initial shock gave way to embarrassment as he realized the implications of the question. He scrutinized J-Hope from head to toe, his gaze lingering on his husband’s youthful features. “You’re too small for that,” he blurted out, then instantly regretted his choice of words. “I mean, you’re too young for a baby right now, dear.”
J-Hope’s brow furrowed in confusion. “But if you won’t tell me, I can just Google it!” He reached for his phone, his curiosity igniting.
“No, no, wait!” Suga exclaimed, panic rising in his chest as he tried to snatch the phone away from J-Hope. “You really don’t need to look it up!”
But J-Hope was persistent and agile, pulling the phone away and laughing at Suga’s frantic attempts to reclaim it. Suga’s cheeks burned with embarrassment as he stuttered, “I-I mean, it’s not something you should just Google. It’s, um... complicated.”
J-Hope, still amused by the whole situation, teased, “Are you embarrassed, Suga? It’s just a question!”
Suga’s face flushed even deeper, and he could feel his heart racing. “No, it’s just... How about I tell you tomorrow morning?” he suggested, hoping to buy himself some time to think of a suitable explanation. “I’m quite tired, and this isn’t really the best time for a... lecture.”
Without realizing it, and perhaps out of instinct, Suga pulled J-Hope towards him, wrapping his arms around him in a tender embrace. It was the first time since their wedding that they had shared such an intimate moment, and as they cuddled, J-Hope relaxed against Suga’s chest, feeling safe and content.
The warmth of Suga’s body against his made J-Hope’s heart swell with affection. “Okay,” he murmured, feeling a sense of normalcy between them, despite the awkwardness of the earlier conversation. He had always been a bit of a free spirit, and now he felt that this moment of vulnerability was part of their journey together.
As they settled into bed, the soft sheets cradling them, J-Hope felt the tension of the day melt away. Suga held him close, the rhythm of their breathing syncing as they drifted into sleep.
The night may have started with confusion and curiosity, but it ended with a sense of comfort and the promise of growing intimacy. J-Hope smiled to himself as he closed his eyes, grateful for the small yet significant progress in their relationship. It was clear that their journey together was just beginning, and he couldn’t wait to explore every step with Suga by his side.
With thoughts of tomorrow lingering in the air, both of them fell asleep, unaware of the delightful chaos that awaited them as they continued to navigate love, family, and the unexpected surprises that life had in store.
