Chapter 46: A Love That Burns, a Curse That Fades

“I loved him,” she said, her voice trembling. “I raised him as my own son, even if it was all for revenge. I cherished him, just as you do.”

Namjoon’s heart broke as he listened to her, the weight of her confession sinking in. This was not just a spirit seeking vengeance; she had truly loved Jin, and now that love was causing her pain.

“I will take the curse,” Namjoon said without hesitation. “If Jin is hurt, I’ll feel the pain. Twice as much. Just make him safe.”

The girl hesitated, her face torn with inner conflict. “Namjoon,” she warned, “think carefully. You’re a mafia king, surrounded by enemies. If they find out about this, they won’t come for you. They’ll come for Jin. And he is far too delicate for the cruelty of this world.”

“I can protect him,” Namjoon said with fierce determination. “I’ll keep him safe. Just... please.”

The girl looked at him one last time, her eyes filled with the love she had once felt for him. “I never wanted to hurt you, Namjoon. I just wanted you to love me. But now... now I realize that I can’t hurt you. Or Jin.”

Before Namjoon could stop her, she took the curse back upon herself. The old goddess’s warning rang in the air: if she failed in her mission, the curse would fall upon her, and her soul would turn to ashes.

The girl smiled sadly as she looked at Namjoon one last time. “Tell Jin that I’ve gone on a long journey, and that I leave him in your care. Love him. Protect him.”

As Namjoon watched, her body slowly dissolved into ashes, carried away by the wind. The curse was lifted, but at a terrible cost.

Namjoon remained on his knees, staring at the spot where she had vanished. His heart ached with the weight of yet another death added to the burdens he carried. “How many more deaths will I be responsible for?” he whispered to the night sky.

When Namjoon returned to Jin’s hospital room, he saw a sight that filled his heart with relief. Jin was awake, smiling softly as he spoke to his family. Taehyung and Jungkook were fussing over him, J-Hope and Yoongi standing nearby with love in their eyes. Even his parents were there, the room filled with warmth and laughter. Jin blushed deeply as they teased him about making the cold mafia king fall in love.

Namjoon stood at the door, unnoticed for a moment. His heart swelled with love as he watched the scene. Finally, he made his presence known, and all eyes turned to him.

“I’ll handle the discharge papers,” Namjoon said softly, his voice thick with emotion. “We’ll talk about all of this at home.”

The family nodded, but they couldn’t help noticing the puffiness of Namjoon’s eyes, the exhaustion on his face. Jin gazed at him with concern, but before he could speak, Namjoon turned and left to handle the formalities.

As they made their way home, the rain began to fall, heavy and relentless, as if the sky itself was mourning something lost. But no one knew what—or who—was being mourned.

Far away, Jackson sat alone on an isolated road, tears streaming down his face as he leaned against his car. The ashes of the girl’s soul brushed against him, as if her love for him had finally touched him one last time before disappearing forever. He fainted, overcome with emotion, and when he woke, he couldn’t remember why he had been there. The girl’s existence was wiped from his memory, as though she had never been.

Only Namjoon remembered.

Back at the Kim mansion, as Jin asked Namjoon about his grandmother, Namjoon repeated the girl’s final words. “She said she was going on a spiritual journey and that she left you in my care. She didn’t want to see you cry, so she left without saying goodbye.”

Jin was upset, but Namjoon’s words calmed him. And so, as the rain continued to pour, the chapter of one life ended, and the next began.

Jin’s presence in the Kim mansion would bring both warmth and a new set of challenges, but for now, the family was together. And that was all Namjoon needed.

Seems like the rain was saying the unsaid words of that girl
" My love died, but I pray for your love to remain forever."
