The next morning, Jungkook woke up determined to crack Taehyung's icy exterior, even if just a little. Yesterday’s encounter had given him a glimpse of something behind those cold eyes, something human, and Jungkook couldn’t stop thinking about it. There was something strangely magnetic about Taehyung’s intensity, even if he acted like he hated everything about the world—and especially Jungkook.
Jungkook made his way to the office with a renewed sense of purpose. If anyone could break through that cold, emotionless exterior, it was him. Besides, there was a sense of challenge in it, and Jungkook loved challenges.
---
When Jungkook entered the office, he was greeted with the familiar silence that Taehyung’s presence seemed to command. The older man was already sitting behind his desk, typing furiously on his keyboard, his brow furrowed in concentration. The sight of him looking so focused and serious made Jungkook smile. He’d have to find a way to make this day interesting.
“Good morning, Mr. Kim!” Jungkook chirped as he walked over to his desk.
Taehyung didn’t look up from his computer. “Morning,” he mumbled, his tone indifferent.
Jungkook placed his bag down and took a seat at his desk. He watched Taehyung work for a moment, his fingers tapping rhythmically against the keyboard. There was something oddly fascinating about the way Taehyung moved, as if every action was calculated and precise. It was a stark contrast to Jungkook’s more laid-back approach to life.
Jungkook decided to test the waters. “Did you sleep well, Mr. Kim?”
“Fine,” Taehyung answered without looking up.
Jungkook tilted his head. “Do you ever smile? Or is it only reserved for special occasions?”
Taehyung paused for a split second, his fingers halting on the keyboard. He glanced up at Jungkook, his eyes narrowing slightly. “Why do you ask such pointless questions?”
Jungkook grinned. “It’s not pointless! I’m just curious. You’re always so serious. I think a smile would suit you.”
Taehyung stared at him for a moment, clearly unamused. “I don’t have time for that,” he said coldly, returning his attention to the screen.
Jungkook puffed out his cheeks in frustration. Of course he doesn’t have time to smile—he probably schedules his emotions. But that didn’t mean Jungkook was going to give up. He leaned back in his chair, tapping his chin as he thought of how to lighten the mood.
---
Later in the morning, as they worked quietly, Jungkook’s stomach growled audibly. He winced, glancing nervously at Taehyung, who was still engrossed in his work.
"Uh, sorry about that," Jungkook mumbled, patting his stomach. He looked at the clock and realized it was almost time for lunch. An idea popped into his head—one that was sure to get a reaction out of Taehyung.
Jungkook stood up from his desk and approached Taehyung’s, a mischievous grin on his face. “Hey, Mr. Kim.”
Taehyung sighed, rubbing his temples. “What now?”
“How about we get lunch together?”
Taehyung finally looked up from his computer, his brow furrowing. “What?”
