The tension in the room was almost palpable the next morning. When Jungkook entered the office, his movements were precise, measured-as if he was trying to tread lightly, making sure not to disrupt the fragile boundary he had set between himself and Taehyung. Gone was the lively, carefree energy that used to radiate from him. Instead, he moved with a quiet elegance, his face carefully neutral, not betraying a single hint of the internal struggle he faced. It was as if a wall had been erected between them, leaving no room for the warmth they once shared.

Taehyung, sitting behind his desk, allowed himself a brief glance at Jungkook. He noted the changes instantly. Jungkook was no longer the vibrant, teasing force that brightened up the office. His silence felt heavier than any words he could have spoken. The void left by the absence of Jungkook's usual self was like a cold wind that Taehyung couldn't escape.

"Here are the reports for the new project," Jungkook said quietly, his tone clipped and professional. He placed the folder on Taehyung's desk with a sense of detachment that felt foreign, even wrong.

Taehyung's eyes flicked up to meet his, but his face remained as stoic as ever. Internally, though, his chest tightened. The gap between them had grown overnight, and he hated the feeling more than he expected.

"Good," he said, his voice devoid of the warmth or acknowledgment that his body seemed to crave.

Jungkook didn't linger. Without waiting for further instruction, he turned on his heel to leave. But just as his hand reached the door handle, Taehyung's voice, sharp and commanding, cut through the silence.

"Wait."

Jungkook froze, though he didn't turn to face him. "Yes, sir?"

The cold formality of the word "sir" pierced through Taehyung's chest like a dagger. It was the first time Jungkook had addressed him so impersonally. There was no playful edge, no glimmer of the familiar banter that had once characterized their interactions. Taehyung clenched his jaw, suppressing the growing frustration inside him.

"Did you..." He hesitated, an unfamiliar feeling of vulnerability creeping into his throat. "Did you finish the market analysis I asked for?"

"It's on your desk," Jungkook replied, his voice even, professional. "I also emailed you the full breakdown."

Taehyung's fingers drummed impatiently on the desk, the only outward sign of the storm brewing inside him. His eyes remained locked on Jungkook's stiff back. He wanted to say more-anything to shatter this unbearable coldness. But he was trapped in his own pride, wrapped in the armor he'd forged over the years.

"Fine," he muttered, his tone clipped and dismissive, though his heart screamed for something different.

Jungkook gave a slight nod before slipping out of the room, the soft click of the door closing behind him echoing in Taehyung's ears. The moment he was gone, the mask Taehyung wore faltered, and a frustrated sigh escaped his lips. His mind replayed yesterday's interaction over and over. The sting of Jungkook's hurt eyes wouldn't leave him. He had convinced himself that pushing Jungkook away was the right thing to do-to maintain professionalism, to keep their relationship strictly business. But now, with Jungkook's icy distance suffocating the air between them, doubt began to creep in.
