Maithili's Pov

It felt like everything else had stopped, and it was just me and him as I felt his lips on mine, as his hands caressed my cheeks and I clutched his shirt tightly.

So, this is how it feels to be kissed by your lover.

But was Aarav really my lover?

I didn't try to overthink anything else and just concentrated on being there with him, being in his arms, and feeling him closer to me than ever before.

Just as we broke the kiss, trying to catch our breaths there was a loud knock on the door, shocking us as we parted ways and looked downstairs where the main door was and looked back at each other.

"Princ-" he couldn't complete as the banging on the door increased as I hastily put on the mask and and scarf over my head as Aarav walked ahead and I followed him a little behind, scared but stayed in the shadow so that whoever it was couldn't see me but I could see them.

Aarav looked back at me once before turning around towards the door and opening it as I prayed to God it was not the police or some person who was trying to locate us.

My eyes widened the moment Aarav opened the door and Abeer stormed in, his eyes burning with anger. Without wasting a second, he grabbed Aarav by the collar. A girl rushed in behind him, trying to stop Abeer, her face full of worry. Panic shot through me for Aarav, but strangely, a wave of relief also washed over me at the sight of Abeer.

"You idiot!" Abeer shouted right in Aarav's face, and for a second, I thought he was about to punch him. But to my surprise, he pulled Aarav into a tight hug instead. "Why didn't you tell me you were here? And what kind of mess have you gotten yourself into this time?" he demanded, his voice still tense, but I couldn't help but let out a relieved sigh.

"How did you find out I was here?" Aarav asked, ignoring Abeer's questions. As he spoke, I finally stepped out from the shadows, now standing behind Abeer and the girl. A wave of familiarity washed over me at the sight of Abeer. He wasn't just anyone, he was my best friend, the one I'd known since childhood. His father used to visit our palace often, always bringing Abeer along. Seeing him again after so long made me feel like I could burst into tears. It was like a flood of emotions hit me, all from seeing that familiar face after what felt like forever.

"Dad told me," Abeer replied, his voice laced with concern. "He was worried about you. He figured you wouldn't open up to him, so he told me instead. Damn it, Aarav, why didn't you tell me you were in Ooty? Shorty and I rushed here as soon as we heard the news," he said, sounding frustrated. I couldn't help but chuckle at his tone. As I walked toward them, I removed the scarf and the mask, revealing myself fully though none of the two had spotted me yet.

"Actually, I had—" Aarav started, but I stopped paying attention the moment I noticed a light flickering through the window and faint voices outside. Panic hit me as I realized I had just removed my scarf and mask. Without thinking twice, I bolted from the room and hid in one of the nearby rooms, heart racing. I had just missed my chance to reunite with Abeer.
