Maithili's Pov
Today is the day I will be getting married. Goodbye, freedom.
I sighed remembering the last two days full of rituals and festivities I had to do as the bride, I was so exhausted that I felt sleepy when the make-up artist asked me to close my eyes as she did her work on my face.
Not to forget my Dad's excitement over my marriage, he was so excited, that someone would think it was his wedding. Sometimes I wonder if he even knows about the rumors about Lakshyaa's deeds or he just refuses to acknowledge them.
Snaaya sat beside me all dressed up, looking beautiful as always, helping me wear the bangles as Mom kept fussing behind me doing the rest of the arrangements.
I looked down at my Mehendi-clad hand and a chill went down my body, not the one where you feel excited or feel out of the world, but something bad, like I was making a big mistake.
I could hear from my room as the guests arrived, the palace where my wedding was supposed to happen was almost full-packed with guests from all over, I saw it earlier from my room window and the thudding of my heart increased.
I don't want to get married, please God, please.
As soon as I pleaded, I could hear the dhol indicating that the Baarat had arrived and a chill ran down my body I immediately looked over at Snaaya as she tried to comfort me by caressing my hands.
"Oh, Lakshyaa is here, are you done or not?" Mom asks the beautician as she walks towards me, making sure I am ready.
"Almost done," The beautician replies as I start to take huge breaths, trying to calm myself down and give Mom a smile as she corrects the dress and looks at me through the mirror.
"You look so beautiful," she says, her eyes looking watery as I give her a sad smile. "Rest here, I will be back soon to take you down," she says and leaves to attend the Baarat as the beauticians start doing my final make-up.
"Uh, stop," I say suddenly and the beautician stops and looks at me confused. "I think this is good, I don't want any more make-up," I say, I might have sounded rude to her but I was irritated, she had been doing my make-up for the last three hours and that meant I was seated on this place since last three hours and it was getting irritating.
"But the final touch-ups?" she asks and I look at Snaaya for help.
"I'll do it," Snaaya says and stands up, "Why don't you guys go and get ready?" She says to the beauticians present there and they looked unsure as they stared at both of us.
"She is right, please go and get ready, I think I look beautiful now," I say, now feeling a little sorry for behaving a little rude earlier.
"Oh, okay," the head beautician says and starts packing up her things and I take a sigh of relief. Fifteen minutes later, they left the room leaving me and Snaaya alone.
