The Qiao family really wouldn't completely sever ties with the Lin family over Qiao Ziqing.

It wasn't because the Qiao family feared the Lin family, but rather that, when it came down to it, Qiao's father felt that Qiao Ziqing simply wasn't worth such a drastic move.

Compared to the relatively straightforward situation of the Lin family, the Qiao family was far more complicated.

Qiao's father and mother were a typical strong marriage among the wealthy, devoid of any feelings. After quickly conceiving Qiao Ziqing, the two grew apart.

After Qiao Ziqing was born, Qiao's mother and father separated rapidly, each taking on their own lovers, leading to constant scandals and neglecting their home.

Over time, Qiao's mother seemed to find the ties to the Qiao family stifling and, after some negotiation, divorced and remarried abroad.

As for Qiao's father, following the divorce, he had a steady stream of illegitimate children, often making headlines. Not long after, he seemed to encounter a capable woman who, heavily pregnant, became Mrs. Qiao.

Thus, Qiao Ziqing grew up unloved by either parent, with younger siblings at home eagerly eyeing her position as the heir, making her situation quite precarious.

And as for Qiao's father? With so many children, drunk in his newfound happiness, he had no energy to spare for a daughter he found unappealing from his first marriage.

Lin Xingzhu, fearing that Bai Xiying might be too worried, succinctly explained Qiao Ziqing's current predicament to her.

Bai Xiying pursed her lips, nodding thoughtfully.

After a moment, she took a sip of her coffee and looked at Lin Xingzhu with some concern. "Does your dad know about me? He doesn't mind, does he?"

"What would he mind?" Lin Xingzhu replied nonchalantly, chuckling. "You don't know, but when he heard I had a girlfriend, he insisted I bring her home."

Lin Xingzhu shrugged, amused by her father's excitement the previous night.

Bai Xiying imagined the scene and couldn't help but smile.

She had seen Lin's father before.

It was after Lin Xingzhu was sent to jail that he came to plead with her to give Lin Xingzhu mercy, even offering to spend his fortune for it.

But what good would that money do her? Bai Xiying thought. Her peaceful life was irretrievable now, and shouldn't the original culprit pay for what they had done?

After that, Bai Xiying never saw that tall and upright man again; in her blurred memories, only a weathered back remained.

"Get ready," Lin Xingzhu paused and looked at Bai Xiying. "My dad... he really might want to meet you."

Since they were going to confront the Qiao family, Lin's father had reason to meet the person who made his daughter so furious.

Bai Xiying understood this reasoning. "When is this likely to happen? I need to prepare."
