Bai Xiying woke up to a dark sky outside the window.

Her eyes were bleary, her mind still foggy from oversleeping, and she felt an uncomfortable sensation as if someone had force-fed her glue.

There was also a slight discomfort in her neck.

Bai Xiying reached back to touch her neck, slowly sat up, and moved her head from side to side until she adjusted and fully woke up.

Is it still not light out?

Bai Xiying instinctively thought as she stared at the pitch-black sky.

Then she realized it must already be evening.

Just then, she heard a rustling sound coming from the slightly ajar door.

A sharp glint flashed in her eyes as she lifted the covers, pulled a dagger from beneath her pillow, and quietly padded barefoot against the wall to open the door.

The warm yellow light from the chandelier in the living room illuminated the space, and it seemed someone was cooking in the open kitchen.

Bai Xiying paused.

She recognized that familiar silhouette and suddenly remembered that Lin Xingzhu had a key to her apartment.

Silently putting the dagger back in its place, Bai Xiying didn't forget to put on her shoes before stepping out.

"What are you doing here?" she asked.

Lin Xingzhu turned around upon hearing the voice. "You're awake?"

As she spoke, she felt a twinge of guilt deep down.

Bai Xiying nodded, watching Lin Xingzhu, who was wearing the bear apron she had bought, deftly chopping vegetables.

"Yeah, I slept for so long," Bai Xiying said. "It's ridiculous; I slept an entire day, aside from the time I was asleep last night."

Although she had only fallen asleep just before dawn, sleeping the whole day was still quite absurd.

Lin Xingzhu pretended to focus on cutting vegetables, not daring to mention that she had originally planned to wake Bai Xiying in the afternoon but had knocked her out instead, leading to this late awakening.

Bai Xiying had checked her phone when she went back to put on her shoes, and it turned out it had been on silent mode. There were over a dozen missed calls, with the most recent ones all from Lin Xingzhu.

She selectively ignored the series of missed calls from Mu Muqing that were marked in red.

So it must be that Lin Xingzhu had worried when she couldn't reach her and took out her spare key to check on her.

Thinking this, Bai Xiying's gaze softened slightly. "I'm sorry to worry you."

Lin Xingzhu hurriedly replied, "It's okay," then neatly placed the prepared vegetables aside and began blanching the fresh chicken she had just bought.

After blanching the black-boned chicken to remove the blood, she rinsed it clean. Once that was done, she added the already prepared pitted dates, ginger slices, astragalus, and other seasonings into the pot to start making soup.
