In the middle of the night, Lin Xingzhu lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to sleep.

Her surging emotions receded like the tide, and as she lay on her back with her eyes still open, a hint of confusion flickered in her gaze.

She recalled Bai Xiying's indifferent eyes and mocking smile.

A sudden ache blossomed in her heart.

But now that she had calmed down, Lin Xingzhu remembered a night when Bai Xiying had called her, asking her to stay over.

Without any warning, Lin Xingzhu got up, changed out of her pajamas into a fitted t-shirt and long pants, grabbed her phone, and headed out.

Once she entered the bright elevator, she glanced at her phone and saw it was already late—midnight. She wasn't sure if Bai Xiying was asleep.

But she just wanted to check on her.

The hallway was empty and quiet. Lin Xingzhu rubbed her arms and stopped in front of Bai Xiying's door.

She didn't know if Bai Xiying needed her, but Lin Xingzhu still came.

Suddenly, the door swung open.

Lin Xingzhu was slightly startled, then met the gaze of the person behind the door.

She saw Bai Xiying holding a bag of trash, looking like she had just tidied up.

But why was she cleaning in the middle of the night? It felt a bit strange.

However, given their recent argument, Lin Xingzhu merely averted her gaze and remained silent.

What she didn't know was that after returning home, Bai Xiying had felt frustrated upon seeing the extra noodles Lin Xingzhu had cooked that morning. In a fit of irritation, she had dumped everything and cleaned the kitchen again.

Bai Xiying didn't look at her, keeping her eyes straight ahead as she bent down to toss the trash and reached for the door to close it.

"Hey—"

Lin Xingzhu quickly put her hand out to block the door.

Bai Xiying raised her eyebrows and silently looked at her, her expression clearly saying, "If you have something to say, say it; if not, move along."

"You..." Lin Xingzhu paused, "are you okay?"

She bit her lip, looking at her. "I was a bit worried about you..."

As she spoke, Lin Xingzhu felt a bit awkward.
