Bai Xiying's deep gaze fixed on Lin Xingzhu's back, her mind swirling with unspoken images that would make anyone blush if they could see their own heart laid bare.

The earlier confusion had vanished in an instant; now, Bai Xiying was determined that, no matter whether Lin Xingzhu accepted it or not, Lin Xingzhu was destined to be hers alone—there was no way she could just provoke her into feeling like this then to just walk away.

With this resolution, Bai Xiying returned to her usual self.

Lin Xingzhu remained oblivious to how much her companion had reacted to her future willingness to belong to her during that brief journey.

As usual, she drove Bai Xiying home. On the way up, Lin Xingzhu helped carry the large box that Bai Xiying had left in the trunk, while Bai Xiying held the items she had bought from the supermarket.

Inside, besides daily necessities, there was also a box of what looked like very sweet Swiss rolls.

With a furrowed brow, Lin Xingzhu suddenly asked, "Have you always loved sweet things?"

Caught off guard by the sudden question, Bai Xiying paused, her expression unchanged. "I liked them as a child, but now I really love them."

A love that bordered on obsession.

Before she had memories of living with Han Cuiying, the only sweet things Bai Xiying recalled were the cakes her parents bought for her birthday.

The cream on the cake was very sweet—rich and sugary—and that sweetness, which reached deep into her heart, still made her feel a bit uneasy even now.

But after her parents passed away and she lived with Han Cuiying, the only sweets she got to eat were candies handed out casually by other adults or fruit candies shared by other kids.

Even as an ordinary child, Bai Xiying also enjoyed sweet things.

So, every time she got those candies, she felt very happy, enduring Han Cuiying's bad moods in return.

The beautiful and delicious cakes remained forever out of reach in bright display windows.

After looking for too long, they became an obsession.

When the word "sweet" was associated with pleasant memories, during her times of despair, the only comfort she found came from anything related to sweetness.

Lin Xingzhu, holding the box, couldn't reach her mouth, but feeling her healthy teeth, said, "Well, your teeth seem pretty good."

After eating so many sweets, they hadn't decayed at all.

Lin Xingzhu remembered that she loved sweets as a child too; after all, which kid doesn't?
