Chapter 17

I've been on edge since I recieved that call yesterday. I got back and told Elle about it when she wasn't all over Ellis but even then I don't think she really listened to me. Even Ellis didn't seem to hear me, so much for my protection but I could understand, they'd just found their mate after all.

I walked down the hall at lunch alone to pack my things away in my locker.

"Hey." I jumped and hit my hand on the door of my locker, dropping my book.

"Ow." I said shaking my hand.

"Jeez Autumn. Whats got you so jumpy?" Emma said picking up my book and handing it over to me. I took it and put it in my locker.

"Nothing." I lied. "How are things?" I asked.

"Great actually." She smiled wide. "Who knew Conor was actually really sweet and caring and I mean, I always knew he was hot but now..." She sighed happily. "Everythings just perfect. What about you?" She asked.

"Things are good." I said shrugged.

"Great!" She beamed. "Its so good we're all happy! And I heard your going on a date with Jake today!" She grinned even wider.

"Yeah I-"

"Autumn." Some guy called my name. "Alpha wants to talk to you after school." He said and just walked off.

"Apparently not then." I frowned. I sighed, I just didn't know what was going on anymore.

"Connor!" Emma yelled when she saw him and ran off.

"Nice talking to you too." I muttered and shut my locker.

"Hey, can we rearrange for tonight?" Jake asked from behind me.

"Sure." I sighed and started walking.

"Hey, you ok?" He asked catching me up.

"Yeah, just tired and not feeling too well. Actually I think I'm going to go home, would you mind telling the others?" I asked.

"Ok." He said frowning conerned.

"Thanks." I smiled and walked off.

When I got back only Seth was there in an empty cafe.

"You're back early." he said.

"Yeah, I didn't feel too good. Where's Elle?" I asked.

"Meeting Ellis on his lunch break." He rolled his eyes. "I was actually just going to meet my dad, you wanna come?" He asked not wanting to leave me by myself.

"No, but I'll come with you to the packhouse." I said and he nodded getting his stuff. 

He drove so it didn't take us long until we were pulling up outside and walking up the steps to the front door. It was empty, only a few people around since all the kids and teenagers were at school still.

"You ok then?" He asked as we were about to split ways.

"Yeah, I'll catch you later." I smiled and he went through the back as I headed up stairs to the Alpha's office. I knocked and waited, when I didn't hear anything, I knocked again. Nothing still. I went back down stairs and through to the kitchen to find Melissa cooking something that smelt really good.

"Oh hey Autumn." She grinned at me. "Making homemade lasagne." She said checking on the oven.

"Smells good." I said smiling.

"So, how come you're not at school?" She said taking off her apron.

"Well, I didn't feel too well and Alpha Richard wanted to see me after school anyway." I said.

"Well, he's out back." She said looking through the window. "Mm, Autumn." I turned back around. "How are things going with you and my son?" She asked.

"Better." I said after thinking about it. "We were going on a date today but he rearranged it." She sighed.

"That boy." She muttered. "He just needs time to figure out how to do the right thing. He's always doing things without thinking first." She said defending him.

"Yeah, I've realised that. And I am giving him a chance." I said she smiled.

"Oh I've been hoping his mate would be someone like you." She said putting her hand on her chest over her heart. "I'm sorry, go go, find Richard, he's out back somewhere."

"Ok." I said and went to look for Alpha Richard.

I found him out back with Seth and his dad.

"Ah, Autumn." Alpha Richard said waving me over. "Seth said you were around."

"You wanted to see me?" I asked.

"Yes, I was just wondering if you were going to clue my son in on whats happening? No pressure or anything but I'm just concerned to how he's going to react considering you're his mate."

"Well, I just figured the less people know, the less people that are going to get hurt. Him especially." I said and he nodded somewhat understanding.

"I get it, don't worry but maybe it wouldn't be so bad him knowing? He can protect himself and you. I know from experience." He winked and I nodded.

"I'll definitely think about it."

"Where's Ellis?" He asked frowning.

"He's with Elle, he found his mate." I said smiling.

"Thats great news." David smiled.

"Yes it is. But I gave him orders, to protect you."

"Don't worry about it, it's new and exciting for them."

"Would you like for me to assign someone else?" He asked.

"I'll do it." Seth grinned at me and Alpha Richard looked at me.

"I'm fine with that." I shrugged. My phone started ringing and I excused myself to answer it. "Hello?" Slience. I knew who it was. "What do you want?" I whispered scared and annoyed.

"You." He answered. "That dress looks good on you. Green is defiantly your colour." He growled and the colour drained from my face.

"Where are you?" I asked looking around but trying not to make it obvious.

"I didn't count on you finding your mate Autumn." He said sounding angry. "It changes things. Things will have to speed up. I can't have an Alpha on my tail."

"What do you want?" I asked again.

"I thought I'd made that obvious by now. Looks like I'm going to have to attack-"

"No, no. Please, don't hurt anyone." I said.

"But your mate is an Alpha, he's not going to let you go so easy." He purred making my stomach twist.

"What if I come to you and no one gets hurt?" Oh God, this is exactly what he wanted.

"Well, that would be a lot easier for me. I wouldn't have to kill any more people." I gritted my teeth when he brought that subject up.

"Where?"

"Tomorrow, 1 o'clock. There's a small diner just outside the boarder. Come alone and don't tell anyone. I have people watching and ready to attack on my command." He hung up.

I didn't know how I was going to get there but I would. I wouldn't let any more people die because of me. Jake will move on, everyone will move on eventually.

"Hey, who was it?" Seth asked coming up to me.

"Maisie, she was just making sure I'd pick Lizzy up from school tomorrow." Maisie didn't call but I did have to pick Lizzy up tomorrow.

"Ok, you ready to go back?" he asked.

"Yeah." I nodded.

I needed a plan. A good one.
