Resisting Temptation

Chapter 10

I was having a nightmare. You know the one, the one where you're stood in front of the entire school, sometimes in your underwear, other times just completely naked and everyone was staring at you in complete silence before the place erupts with laughter and your left feeling completely exposed and embarrassed?

Well, I felt like that was happening to me. Only, I was fully clothed and no one started laughing. No one was even looking at me because I managed to keep to the back with my head down. Besides, no one had actually said my name so I was hoping to just be able to slip away unnoticed.

Someone in front of me broke the silence by whispering to the person stood next to them.

"Jake found his mate?" He whispered shocked and his friend just shrugged just as confused. That was all that was needed for the rest of the students to break out in whisper's. I took that as my moment to sneak away.

I managed to get to the other side of the crowd with Emma right behind me. I took a few steps away from the scene and leant against the wall.

"That was certainly unexpected." Emma said leaning next to me.

"You think?!" I said still trying to process everything through my mind.

"Hold on a second." A new voice said coming from the centre of attention. Emma and I could no longer see what was going on but being a wolf comes with enhanced senses meaning we could still hear loud and clear. "Who did you say your mate was?" Ellis asked.

"I didn't." Jake said still angry.

"No, but...what did you say Clark?" Ellis said talking to the guy who Jake was holding up against the lockers.

"I said.." He swallowed nervously. "I was going to ask the new girl out?" He questioned making Jake growl.

"New girl." Scarlett growled as well.

"So, Clark, you were going to ask out.....Autumn?" And there it was.

"Yes." Clark said in a high voice.

"That new skank isn't your mate!" Scarlett said. "I'm your mate Jake." She grounded.

"Scarlett, get over yourself." Jake said sounding like he had dropped Clark who started gasping for air.

"Why didn't you tell us?" Connor said this time.

"It's complicated." Jake said more calmer now.

"Where is she?" I heard someone from the crowd whisper which probably brought everyone looking around for me.

"Oh crap." I muttered under my breath.

"Come on." Emma said dragging me by the hand away from everything and everyone. I followed her willingly to the girls bathroom where she locked the door behind us. I put my hands on either side of the sink and looked at myself in the mirror.

How did my life end up like this? I silently asked my reflection.

"Autumn?" Emma asked and I shifted my gaze to look at her.

"I need to go for a run." I said knowing I haven't been in my wolf form for at least a week. "I need to clear my mind." I said turning around to face her.

"Ok, I get it." She said smiling. "I'm sorry for how everythings turned out for you, you know that I'm always here for you right?" I smiled and nodded.

"Thank you." I hugged her, she no idea how much it meant to me. Since my parents died, I've always felt alone, the only people I had were Seth, Elle, Lizzy and my aunt Maisie. It was nice to know that I some else was there for me. "Any chance you know a way to sneak me out?"
