Sometimes, I believe not dreaming, or not remembering the dream at all, it is actually better than dreaming. When you're asleep, you have no control over your imagination and it can create things you never wanted to see or a world that you so badly want to live in but when you wake it all just disappears, leaving you with nothing but strange feelings and disappointment.
Unfortunately for me, my dreams had been quite vivid lately. It would be the same one every night, the same images of another car crashing into my parents, watching as the car burst into flames while I sat on the sidelines trying desperately to help them and maybe change what was happening so when I woke up, they would still be here.
Nothing changed, the moment I opened my eyes, cold, hard reality hit me like a bucket of freezing cold water.
In this case, I was woken up by something else.
"Autumn, Autumn, Autumn, Autumn, Auuuuuuuutumn!" Someone chanted out my name while bouncing on my bed. Opening my blue eyes I looked into a pair of green eyes inches from my face. "Autumn." Lizzy whispered when I closed my eyes again. I smiled and she started shaking my shoulder. "Waaaake uuuup." She whined.
"Ok, ok." I laughed sitting up and looking down at her. "Geeze Liz, did you grow over summer?"
"Yup!" She grinned excitedly. "Mama said I'm four inches taller!" She said holding up four fingers.
"Wow, that much?" I asked widening my eyes.
"Come on, come on!" She giggled pulling me out of my bed by my hand. "Mama made us breakfast before she has to work. We got pancakes, yum!"
"Oh how I missed you Lizzy." I smiled following her lazily still in my pajamas. Maybe moving here was a good idea, I hadn't smiled so much in a week and being around Lizzy I can't help but smile. She was the cutest kid.
"I'm a lovable child." She replied and I laughed.
"And who told you that?" I asked raising an eyebrow while we took our seats in one of the booths.
"Everyone." She stated proudly.
"Good morning Autumn, how did you sleep?" Maisie asked placing our plates on the table and sitting on the same side as Lizzy.
"Great thanks." I smiled but was more interested in the pancakes sat in front of me. Taking one bite of the pancake had me sighing as the delicious taste exploded in my mouth. "Damn, I missed your cooking Maisie." I said before shoving the next bite into my mouth.
"Missed my pancakes more than me." She chuckled. "At least it keeps you coming around hey." She laughed.
"Mama's got the best pancakes in town!" Lizzy jumped excitedly.
"I'm sure she has." I nodded in agreement, there was no way anyone could beat these.
"Mama said we can go to the park today!" Lizzy grinned from across the table at me.
"I said if she wants to take you Lizzy." Maisie said rolling her eyes.
"Pleeeeeeease." Lizzy said sticking her bottom lip out and widening her eyes. If only she didn't look so cute.
"Can I wear my hat?" I asked Lizzy who thought it over before reluctantly nodding. She didn't like hats, not just my hat just hats in general. It was actually kind of weird. "Then I see no problem." I smiled and she clapped.
"Yes!"
"Just remember Autumn, the Alpha is coming over today. Please be back by three."
"Ok." I completely forgot about the Alpha's visit today, I'd only met him once years ago when I visited Maisie, he seemed like a nice man but knowing that I was now joining his pack I was as nervous as hell about meeting him.
