Jake's P.O.V

"I swear, if you click that pen one more time I'll rip your hand off." I growled at Ellis. He was already annoying me so he really didn't want to push it any more. It amazed me that I hadn't gone wolf on any of them considering how much on the edge I've been lately.

"You know, you've been acting strange lately." He said finally putting the pen down. I glared over at him telling him I really didn't want to talk to him about it. I saw Connor out of the corner of my eye who was just watching us silently.

I sighed and mentally slapped myself in the face. I've been so caught up in my own fucked up life I forgot it was his birthday today.

I'd been too busy thinking about Autumn. I still don't think she believed everything I told her the other day and she still wouldn't look at me in school yesterday. I don't know what else to do. I've had Scarlett screaming down my ear thinking I'm just messing with her, I'm just pissed off at Ellis and Connor's the only one who hasn't asked or spoken to me about it, he knew I'll talk when I'm ready.

"Let's go." I said looking at the time. It was our turn to check the perimeter for any trespassers.

"Ellis, go to the West side with Brain." I told him through the mind link when we had all shifted. Maybe talking to Conor wouldn't be such a bad thing.

"Yes boss." Ellis barked before turning and running.

"Stop calling me boss!" I shouted after at him but he just laughed at me. I blocked him off and started making my way to the East side with Conor.

"Happy birthday by the way." I said feeling like a absolute dick.

"Thanks." He replied.

"Sorry dude, I've just been caught up in a lot of shit lately." I sighed.

"Ah, don't worry about it. I understand, would have been nice to know though considering I am your best friend." He said and I laughed.

"I didn't quite understand it all. First I go to Maisie's cafe on the night of my birthday and tell her niece that I don't want a mate when really, I just didn't want it to be Scarlett or one of those girls in the year below who follow us around." I paused as we shifted back and got some basketball shorts from our stash in the tree. "Little did I know she was my mate." I finished.

"So your mate is Autumn? How have you managed to be apart for this long?" He asked as we continued to scout the area in human form.

"I don't know, she's been avoiding me so I haven't seen her, I only touched her once so the bound hasn't had any real chance to strengthen but it is slowly getting stronger, I can feel it."

"I thought it weakens if you don't do anything about it?" He asked confused.

"It does, slowly but I'm an Alpha. It doesn't work that way for me. I can only have one Luna and she's it and she doesn't want it. What am I meant to do?" I said frustrated.

"Have you talked to her?"

"Yes."

"Oh."

"Oh? Is that it? Oh?!"

"Well, you've given her space and time so now just work up from there." He said like it was simple. "Oh my god Jake, start as her friend!" He shouted shaking his head.

"Oh." I said and he laughed.

"You can start tonight at my party." He said wiggling his eyebrows.
