"WHAT ARE YOU DOING THERE? Nancy Wheeler's accusatory tone was obvious. Tangible, even.

A wave of decency and dignity made Rory's vulnerable body break into a cold sweat from head to toe—the shock wasn't quite as bad only because she had evidently predicted this was going to happen. Rory pulled away at the speed of light, and Steve did too, but damn it, his mind was still foggy and aching. She was like a magnet—the closer you got, the closer you wanted to be. It was a desire that never ended.

"Uh, we were just-" Steve began, his voice dragging as though he were drunk. And he was —drunk in love.

"Taking spiderwebs out of Steve's hair." Hargrove started to fuss with the boy's hair. Damn, it really was full of webs.

"With your mouth?"

"What are you even saying, obviously with my hands, look here." Harrington bent lower —though he didn't need to — so Rory could fix his hair more easily.

Wheeler rolled her eyes and huffed loudly, like she was dealing with kids who couldn't control themselves, which wasn't 100% a lie... but Aurora refused to let herself feel intimidated, at least not to the point of losing her spirit.

Rory cleared her throat, tossed her hair, and straightened her clothes, a quick way of distracting her mind from how attractive her boyfriend was—and from the longing in her chest that refused to leave.

"We found a jar with a dead black widow inside, and before we knew it, live ones were crawling all over us."

"If there's a spider in there you'll never find out till it lays eggs and the babies spill out." Robin laughed loudly as she walked past in the hallway, teasing like a little ghost.

Rory froze for a second. Her paranoid brain instantly imagined the worst-case scenario.

"What's wrong with you, Robin?" Steve asked calmly, though uncomfortable, as if it were a genuine question.

"I think it was a relevant intervention." Rory spoke in an even tone to show Robin's joke didn't rattle her—but she tossed her golden-brown straight hair again, as if to shake away anything unwanted in that moment.

"Come on, let's go." Boredom was written all over Nancy's body language. She turned on her heel and continued down the hallway.

"Did we play it off well?" Steve whispered, amused, taking his girlfriend's hand so they could leave the room. His ability to handle bizarre situations was sometimes a real inspiration to her.

Rory laughed and nodded, sharing Harrington's lightheartedness. "I wished so, but we all know we didn't." But Steve wasn't worried. He was happy.
