EVERY SEVEN SECONDS, A LIGHTNING BOLT TORE THROUGH THE BLACK, RAINLESS SKY, followed by a thunderclap whose sound reverberated in their bones and echoed around the environment.
After a long walk — which wasn't so long because Rory had the idea to use some abandoned bicycles she found in a random corner — they arrived at the illustrious building of Hawkins Lab.
Meanwhile, the teams were split up as usual. Steve, Rory, and Dustin went down an absurd number of stairs, while Jon and Nancy went to the top of the building to find answers amid the monotonous yet unpredictable darkness.
"So, Rory, you've been here before, so do you have any tips on where we should take a look at?"
Dustin let the beam of his flashlight lick the dark walls of the laboratory where thick vines clung like eternal roots while the three of them walked on.
"Dude, that's so rude." Harrington grumbled in his hoarse voice. He was annoyed that his girlfriend's turbulent past had been brought up out of nowhere. He received a sideways glance from the youngest.
"It's okay, that's the reality anyway." Rory, even quieter than usual, replied calmly, as if there really were some peace inside her, even though she was several meters underground where the smell of mold and decay was more intense than the pain that had begun to sting her knees from moving for hours on end.
She should share her thoughts to get feedback from the youngest genius among them. But that place still brought her nostalgia, tightening her throat. She should share her thoughts to get feedback from the youngest genius among them. But that place still brought her nostalgia, tightening her throat. Projecting her voice would feel like it would awaken the ghosts of the past.
Scott Clarke's words echoed in her head more than ever. All the projects carried out in Hawkins Lab began with the Experiment to Dimension X, when they tried to make the large ship disappear and actually succeeded. However, if there was a huge circular flesh wall surrounding Hawkins, then they must have crossed much of the inverted version of the city by now, with no sign of the ship. She frowned as she walked, rejecting that foolish thought.
But she was certain that the lab's location at the center of the perimeter was no coincidence. According to Dustin's theory, the circular flesh wall is Vecna's version of an energy shield created through dark magic. And that dark magic shield is preventing them from reaching Henry and saving Holly.
The theory made sense, but she couldn't deny that her brain still hadn't processed all the information she had received that day.
"Could the giant circular wall have been moving over time, tightening until one day it closes completely and swallows the entire Upside Down, making it disappear forever? Or has the wall always been where it is today? Was it created when the inverted world came into existence? Or was it created naturally by science? Does this wall continue vertically into infinity, or does it end where it narrows?"
