THE BROKEN GLASS DIDN'T STOP RORY FROM DRIBING THE BLUE CAMARO – her foot pressed down hard on the accelerator. Not that she needed more adrenaline running through her veins — what she had witnessed that night had already given her enough to steal her sleep — and leave bruises on her body.

If she got a speeding ticket... her dad could pay for it. She was far too busy fixing the mess that had hit their family.

She had just dropped the kids off at home. They had all suffered enough. They needed to rest, come up with another plan. No one was going to do anything else that night.

But Rory couldn't sit still. Not with her possessed brother wandering the streets of Hawkins without a t-shirt.

As she drove, Dustin contacted her through the walkie-talkie to let her know that their plan had worked — Erica had managed to get into the mysterious room. At least one of the plans had succeeded — because hers with the other teens had failed.

The old tires screeched as she parked.

Barely slamming the car door shut, she ran — feeling a sharp pain in her stomach — to warn Steve that their plan had gone out of control. And to beg for help, for guidance.

What the hell, Rory? You've always been able to solve your problems alone, why do you need someone to hold your hand when the world is falling apart?

Because the burden feels lighter when we have someone we love by our side. And Steve was the steady rock in the middle of the storm.

When she stopped struggling with her own conscience, the dark silence of the night surrounded her.

Breathing heavily, clutching her waist, she ran toward the back room of the Starcourt.

There were no guards. The path was clear, as Dustin had informed her. She spotted them in the distance, and they saw her.

"Rory, where have you been?" Robin asked, confused by the other girl's appearance and surprised, her unruly blonde hair swaying.

"Steve said she had a family emergency," Henderson answered, breathless, while rummaging through the cardboard boxes in the room.

Oh, so Steve hadn't told Dustin, or anyone. It made sense, she appreciated the description, but Dustin needed to know that the Shadow Monster was back, terrorizing everyone.

"Are you okay? You're bleeding from your cheek." Robin took a step forward, concerned. Steve appeared beside her, moving closer.

"What are those marks on your neck?" Steve's voice sounded deep, tinged with nervousness and worry. It hadn't been a good idea to leave Billy alone with them. Damn, how stupid was he?
