Adhitya entered his room angrily, unsure of who might have sent Nithya the parcel. A strange feeling churned within him-one he couldn't quite name but didn't like. He slammed the door behind him and flopped onto the bed, fuming with frustration. He wanted to know the identity of the sender, but deep down, he knew Nithya didn't have anyone who would send her such gifts.
After her parents died in an accident, her father's relatives had turned their backs on her, allowing greed to cloud their judgment over her father's properties. For fifteen years, she had been alone, abandoned by the very family who should have supported her.
His mind raced, trying to unravel the mystery of the parcel. Just then, his phone rang. Fumbling in his pocket, he retrieved it to see his brother's name flashing on the screen. He answered, "Hello, Prem. How are you?"
"I'm fine. How are you and Nithya?" Prem asked.
"She's doing well," Adhitya replied, though his tone lacked conviction.
"Did you receive the package that Sri sent to Nithya? She's really upset that I was busy during the baby shower. That's why she sent Nithya's favorite glass bangles and anklets," Prem continued.
"Yes, we just received it," Adhitya responded, feeling a mixture of relief and irritation.
Sri took the phone from Prem, asking Adhitya to pass it to Nithya. Adhitya understood the bond between Nithya and Sri. Although Sri hadn't spent much time at her in-law's house after marriage, due to Prem's political commitments, Nithya had cared for Sri during her pregnancy, whenever she visited, this developed a strong sisterly connection in the process.
Adhitya walked downstairs, knowing Nithya would be in the kitchen. He entered and handed her the phone, saying, "Sri is on the line." Nithya's face lit up as she took the phone, her happiness evident.
Adhitya emerged from the kitchen and settled onto the couch next to his grandmother, he informed her, "Sri sent the parcel to Nithya."
His grandmother's face lit up with a warm smile. "She loves Nithya dearly," she replied, her eyes twinkling. "Such a lovely girl she is."
After a cheerful conversation, she emerged from the kitchen and returned Adhitya's phone. He took it back to his room, still grappling with the anger he felt regarding the parcel. Why was he so bothered? Was he beginning to care for her too much? Was he becoming possessive? "No, I'm just looking out for her because of my baby," he reassured himself.

Days passed in a familiar routine, with Adhitya caring for Nithya in his own way. Sometimes she appreciated his attention, other times, it felt stifling. On one such day, he headed to his farms for work. The car glided down a beautiful road flanked by lush paddy fields. The cool breeze created rippling waves in the green, and the picturesque scenery brought back memories-both sweet and bitter-from his school days.
A single, thoughtless action by a girl had changed everything. It had disrupted his happiness and led his parents to send him away, far from the love he once cherished. As memories flooded back, a lone tear escaped his eye, and he struggled to push the past aside.
