After an hour, the nurse came out after checking on Nithya and informed Adhitya that she was awake. He entered the room and saw Nithya staring blankly at the walls. He approached her, took her hands in his, and asked softly, "How are you feeling now?" Nithya just nodded and closed her eyes, unsure of how to respond. Adhitya took a seat beside her in the chair. An awkward silence filled the room. Nithya was feeling hungry, she hadn't had her lunch because of her clingy son. But she didn't know how to ask Adhitya for food. Adhitya was also feeling hungry. He slowly asked Nithya if she wanted anything to eat. Nithya opened her eyes and nodded yes. Adhitya smiled at her cute gesture and told her to wait while he went down to the hospital canteen to buy some sandwiches and fresh juice for both of them. He returned to the room with the food and set it aside on the table. He helped Nithya sit up and asked if she wanted to use the restroom, she nodded yes. He assisted her to the restroom and waited outside. After helping her settle back into bed, he opened the sandwich and handed it to her. They both ate in silence. After finishing the sandwich, he gave her the juice, which she drank quietly before lying down again. Adhitya remained seated in the chair near her.

A few minutes later, she asked, "Where is Anith?"

"Don't worry, Sri and Diya are with him. I just spoke with Sri, she said he had his food and is sleeping peacefully," Adhitya reassured her. Nithya felt a pang of guilt that her son hadn't asked for her. "He didn't ask for me?" she questioned, her voice tinged with worry.

Adhitya understood her pain and replied, "He cried a lot for you, but Diya and Bro managed to distract him." Nithya merely hummed in response and turned to the other side to sleep, unable to find rest despite having slept long in the evening.

The next morning, the nurse entered and informed Adhitya that the results had arrived and that the doctor wanted to meet him. Adhitya looked at Nithya, who was still sleeping, and left for the doctor's cabin. The doctor informed him that Nithya had typhoid and needed to continue her stay in the hospital for another three days.

Adhitya came out and called Prem to inform him of what the doctor had said. Then he entered Nithya's room, where the nurse had helped her freshen up. Adhitya approached Nithya and said, "Nithya, the results are in. It seems you're typhoid positive, so you'll have to stay in the hospital for three more days."

"What about Anith? Who will take care of him if I stay here for three days?" she asked worriedly.

"Don't worry, I'll ask Sri and Diya to stay with him until you are discharged," he assured her. Even after that, her heart wouldn't calm down at the thought of her son, who always needed her attention. She worried about how he would manage these three days.

Just then, the nurse entered the room to start Nithya's medications. At that moment, Nithya's grandparents, in-laws, and Prem arrived to see her. The nurse asked them to wait outside and informed them that visitors were allowed only at specific times. Since they were already there, they could stay for ten minutes, and only one attendant was allowed with the patient. Everyone entered the room and expressed their concerns about Nithya's health. Prem approached Adhitya and said he was leaving now, confirming that Sri and Diya would be there until Nithya's discharge since Anith needed them. Adhitya thanked him and sent him off. Adhitya's grandmother advised him to go home, freshen up, and bring some clothes for Nithya to change into. Adhitya nodded and left for Nithya's house, while everyone else also departed except Nithya's grandma.

Adhitya entered Nithya's house, where Anith was playing with Diya and Bro. As soon as he heard Adhitya's car, he ran outside and jumped into his arms, looking behind him for Nithya. Understanding his son's confusion, to distract him, Adhitya threw him into the air and caught him, making Anith laugh with delight. Adhitya repeated the action a few more times, kissing Anith's cheeks and holding him tightly as the child giggled.

Sri came out from the kitchen with some coffee for him and asked about Nithya. Adhitya told her everything that had happened in the hospital. Gangamma was also there and asked if she could visit Nithya, but Adhitya declined, explaining that Sri would need her support while Nithya was in the hospital. Gangamma accepted this and continued her work.

Adhitya entered Nithya's room and went into the bathroom to freshen up. After taking a shower, he came out and put on the same clothes. He then opened Nithya's wardrobe to search for comfortable wear but found only sarees. He decided to buy some nighties on his way to the hospital. Just as he was about to close the door, he noticed an old wooden box, worn from years of use. He was about to ignore it, but a sense of curiosity compelled him to take it down.

Setting it on the bed, he lifted the lid. Inside, he found a scattering of items that felt oddly familiar. Among them was an old photograph of his family, where Nithya's parents, his parents, and their grandparents were all present. Nithya, just a few months old, was in her mother's arms, while Adhitya and Prem sat on their parents' laps. His eyes teared up at the sight of his Sharadha aunt.

There were also several photos of Nithya with her parents, her happy face shining in each one. His heart ached at the thought that if her parents were alive, they would have never allowed him to treat their daughter like this. He realized this was why he had taken her for granted—because no one was there for her.

Beneath the photographs, he found a folded note with his name written in her handwriting. He opened it hesitantly, feeling a strange pang he couldn't quite identify.

"I know I can't make you feel anything you don't. But there were moments when I wished you would just look at me, even just once, to see that I needed you. I felt scared and alone, it hurt that you wouldn't even sit by my side. But no matter what, I'm grateful you're in my life. You've always been a part of my happiest memories, even if they weren't yours. I just wish I was someone you could love back, or at least someone you didn't have to look away from."

He folded the note back, tears streaming down his face, and opened another one.

"As I write this, my heart feels heavy with loneliness. I carry our baby, yet I feel as if I'm facing this journey all alone. I can't understand why you see this child as a mistake. it is a part of you and me, and yet you act as if it doesn't exist. Every time I feel our baby move, I long for you to be here to share in this miracle. Instead, I sit in silence, yearning for the warmth of your love that feels so distant. As an orphan, I've always dreamed of having a family to call my own, and now I'm terrified that our child will never know the love I wanted to give them—love I've always hoped would come from you. I feel like I'm screaming into the void, wishing you would hear me, wishing you would care. Do you even realize how much this hurts? It pains me to think that they might feel the same emptiness I've known. I wish you would let us in, let us be part of your life."

He folded the note, crying uncontrollably. There were other notes like this in the box, but he didn't have the courage to open them. His heart felt as though it might explode from the weight of her painful words. Placing his palms on his face, his elbows resting on his knees, he sobbed heavily. Guilt felt like a small word to describe his emotional state.

After a few minutes, he placed the box back in its original spot. He wanted to see Nithya immediately and be with her, he didn't want to leave her alone anymore and hurried to the hospital.

As Adhitya drove to the hospital, the weight of Nithya's words pressed heavily on his heart. Each note was a painful reminder of the moments he had taken for granted. Guilt twisted in his gut, urging him to confront his failures. Why hadn't he seen her pain before? He gripped the steering wheel tighter, determination flooding his veins.
