Adhitya entered the room just after Nithya had been shifted to the ward. IV drips were connected to her, and she would be allowed to leave the hospital once one bottle was completed. As he walked in, Nithya turned her face away from him, staring out the window. He took a seat in the chair beside her, reaching out to hold her hand. "How's the pain now? Do you feel any better?" he asked gently.
Nithya yanked her hand away from him, her voice sharp. "Don't you dare touch me! It's disgusting whenever you're near me."
"Okay, I won't touch you," Adhitya replied, maintaining his composure. "But you can't stop me from touching my baby." He placed his hand on her belly, a gesture meant to express his concern and connection.
Furious, Nithya pushed his hand away and attempted to rise from the bed. Adhitya quickly got up, gently but firmly pressing her back down. "Alright, alright, you need to rest. I won't disturb you, I'll wait outside," he said, stepping out of the room.
As Adhitya exited, Gangamma approached him, concern etched on her face. "How is Nithya now?" she asked.
"She's better, Gangamma. But she doesn't want me around. You go in and keep her company, she's not letting me stay," he replied, settling into a chair in the hallway.
Gangamma entered the room, and Nithya turned her head to see who it was. Upon recognizing Gangamma, a smile spread across her face. Gangamma took a seat nearby, gently caressing Nithya's head. "Are you feeling better now?" she inquired softly.
Nithya nodded, closing her eyes for a brief moment of respite. Once the IV drip was finished, Gangamma called for a nurse to assist with the discharge process while Adhitya took care of settling the hospital bills.
Once they were ready to leave, Gangamma helped Nithya walk out of the hospital, with Adhitya following closely behind. Sensing his presence, Nithya turned to Gangamma and said, "Gangamma, why is he following us? Tell him to go away from me and my child. I can't stand his presence, if he's near me, nothing good will come of it. He's a curse to me."
Adhitya felt a surge of anger at her words. He grabbed her elbow, turning her to face him. "Nithya, stop behaving like this. You're testing my patience. You can't keep me away from my child. If you can't stand my presence, that's your problem, but you can't prevent me from being with my baby."
Nithya forcefully pulled away from him and walked toward the hospital's main entrance. Adhitya called out to Gangamma, "Gangamma, wait here. I'll bring the car." Hearing this, Nithya quickly retorted, "Gangamma, I'm not going with anyone. Just hail an auto." Gangamma looked back and forth between them, unsure of what to do.
Adhitya approached Nithya, urgency in his voice. "Nithya, don't be stubborn. This isn't just about you and me, it involves our baby. Please, let me drop you off." Just then, an auto arrived, having dropped off a patient. Nithya seized the opportunity, getting into the vehicle without hesitation.
Gangamma was taken aback by Nithya's actions, while Adhitya stood in shock, unsure how to respond. "Gangamma, are you coming with me, or will you go home in the car?" Nithya asked. Without a moment's pause, Gangamma climbed into the auto, casting a hesitant glance at Adhitya.
As the auto pulled away, Adhitya remained rooted to the spot, stunned by Nithya's determination. He had never expected her to be this adamant. With a heavy sigh of frustration, he made his way to the parking lot to retrieve his car.
When they reached home, Nithya paid the auto driver and then took out more money to give to Gangamma. "If that man comes, give this money to him. He paid the hospital bills, I don't want him paying for me or my baby," she said, placing a protective hand on her belly.
Gangamma shared what happened at the hospital with Gopaiyya, explaining that she would stay with Nithya until after the delivery. She assured him that she would return home in the mornings. Gopaiyya understood and left.
That evening, upon returning from the hospital, Gangamma urged Nithya to take a bath and change into comfortable clothing. Meanwhile, she busied herself in the kitchen, preparing a meal for Nithya.
After her bath, Nithya was drawn to the enticing aromas wafting from the kitchen. As she entered, she saw Gangamma transferring the food onto plates. "Gangamma, why are you cooking? I said I can manage my own work," she protested.
"I know, dear," Gangamma replied, her tone soothing. "But you're tired today. That's why I cooked. You can handle your own meals starting tomorrow." Nithya nodded, curious about the meal. Gangamma informed her that she had made dal and potato fry, handing her a plate. Excitedly, Nithya took the plate and headed toward the dining table, with Gangamma joining her.
After dinner, Gangamma reminded Nithya to take her medicines. With that, Nithya retreated to her room, preparing for sleep. Gangamma spread a mat in the hall, making herself comfortable for the night.
Meanwhile, Adhitya was lost in thought. He contemplated Nithya's behavior, realizing that bringing her back home would not be as easy as he had initially hoped. As days passed, he understood that he needed to approach her with patience, especially considering her delicate condition. He knew that adding stress to her could only complicate matters further.
