Chapter Thirty-Five: No Option

THE pain cut across Nathan's face like wildfire. He cried out and stumbled back, both of his hands reaching for his face. He tripped and fell onto his side, his body curling in on itself. He screamed in pain, his voice breaking as he did. Rey called out to him, but his voice sounded muffled. Nathan felt sick to his stomach, and his ears began to ring. The pain made him feel like he was going to pass out.
Blood soaked between his fingers and poured onto the ground under him. He tried to open his eyes but found that the vision on his left side was no longer there. Panic began to set in as he shakily traced the gash from above his eyebrow down to his jaw. His body was trembling, slowly going into shock. His breathing became ragged, his eyelid falling heavy.
"Isn't this what you wanted?" Adrian asked. "You wished death upon my daughter many times in your life. Why do you mourn her?"
"I never wanted her dead," He whispered raspily. "I never..."
Adrian walked forward, grabbing Nathan by the arm. He pulled him onto his feet, watching as he fumbled to keep his balance. Nathan straightened his back, his shoulders dropping as he panted, trying to keep his consciousness. The left side of his face held a deep gash, the skin around the wound jagged and already beginning to bruise darkly. Blood cascaded down his face, dripping onto the ground near his feet. His hair fell around his face, the ends soaked with the blood from his face.
Nathan looked to the side, finding that both Rey and Aki's body were both gone. They were now standing in the middle of a clearing, the fog around them lifting. Adrian held the katana at his side, his fingers loose around the hilt.
"Our relationship is rocky," Nathan rasped, slowly shaking his head. "And I hated her when I was younger. But she's still my sister. I'd kill anyone that touches her. Including you."
"How will you do that?" Adrian asked. "You cannot even stand on your own."
Nathan's lips twitched into a grin, blood coating his teeth. "She'd do the same for me."
Adrian's eyes widened when he felt a hand under his chin. He suddenly felt the presence behind him, his body tensing from the overwhelming feeling. Another icy hand rested over his forehead, and he felt an icy breath on the back of his neck, causing goosebumps to arise across his skin.
"Don't think that just because you use my father's body to house yourself, doesn't mean that I am afraid to kill you."
Aki snapped his head to the side, the sound of his spine breaking echoing around them. From the force she used, his cervical vertebrae disconnected from his spine, allowing her to rip his head from the rest of his body. Black blood sprayed across her face and the front of her tank top as she allowed the rest of his body to crumble to the ground at her feet. She tossed his head to the side, watching as it rolled into the sunlight, and disintegrated into nothing but ashed, the rest of his body following a moment after. She walked through the ashes, grabbing Nathan as his knees buckled.
